Sikkim Rail Connectivity: Sevoke-Rangpo Line Nears Completion, Rangpo-Gangtok Survey Approved

The Ministry of Railways has reported remarkable progress on the Sevoke-Rangpo rail line, with 36 km of tunneling complete and just 3 km remaining. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, aligning with Sikkim's 50th Statehood Year celebrations.

In a significant development, the Final Location Survey for the Rangpo-Gangtok rail line has also been approved, bringing the state capital closer to rail connectivity.

Sikkim MP Indra Hang S***a hailed the projects as transformative for the state's tourism and development, emphasizing the vision and leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang in driving such initiatives.

Teacher Brutally Murdered and Buried at Home in Upper Singhik, Mangan

In a shocking incident, Passang Tinku Lepcha, a teacher at Government Senior Secondary School, Mangan, was found murdered and buried in the courtyard of his house in Upper Singhik.

Sikkim's Longest and Highest Ropeway Now Operational at Bhaleydhunga, Offering Scenic Rides with Tickets Priced at ₹950

Sikkim's much-awaited Bhaleydhunga Ropeway, the longest and highest in the state, was officially operational on September 16, 2024.

Stretching over 3.5 kilometers, the ropeway begins at 1,800 meters and ascends to 3,500 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the region and mount Kanchenjunga.

With a top speed of 6 meters per second, the ropeway provides a swift and scenic journey to the Bhaleydhunga summit, taking only a few minutes. Equipped with 18 cabins, each seating 8 passengers, the ropeway connects Dhapper to Bhaleydhunga in Namchi, South Sikkim.

According to Source, Tickets are priced at ₹950 per adult, with operating hours from 8 AM to 3 PM.

Husband k!lled his wife in Jorthang

As per the Police report, a written FIR was received at 3:24 AM yesterday from Mr. Apnel Rai, son of Lalit Kumar Rai, a resident of Housing Colony, Below Telephone Exchange, Jorethang stating that his cousin sister, Mrs. Smrita Rai, 33 years old, daughter of Kamal Rai, residing at Housing Colony, below Telephone Exchange, Jorethang, was found lying dead at around 1 AM in a pool of blood inside her residence. She was attacked with a sharp weapon in her neck by her husband, Mr. Bhim Kumar Rai, who surrendered at the police station after committing the crime. A preliminary investigation suggests that the incident occurred after a scuffle between husband and wife over an alleged extramarital affair between his wife and another person, as suspected by her husband, Bhim Kumar Rai. The PO has been secured awaiting arrival of Executive Magistrate, Forensic Team, Finger Print Expert and Photographer from Gangtok, following which detailed examination of the PO is to be conducted. The alleged accused Bhim Kr. Rai has been arrested and the case is under investigation.

A 19-year-old laborer, Debashis Bauri, from West Bengal, tragically died after falling 450 feet from the Chungthang Lachen Road in North Sikkim.

The incident occurred on 1st August while he was working under 86 RCC GREF.

Despite an extensive rescue operation, he was declared dead upon arrival at Chungthang PHC.

As informed by Sankalang OP, the old bridge near Sangkalang O.P collided with the new bridge, resulting in the bridge collapsing. Therefore, there is a complete cut-off of road connectivity with Upper and Lower Dzongu, Chungthang, Lachung, and Lachen.

1225 tourists evacuated on day 02.

Mangan, June 18 (IPR) : The second day of the evacuation of tourists from Lachung and surrounding regions began around 8 am, today.

Under the directives of District Magistrate, Mr Hem Kumar Chettri, ADM Mangan Mr Vishu Lama, SP Mangan Mr Sonam Detchu Bhutia, BDO Mangan Mr Kailash Thapa along with officials from all line departments as well as BRO, NDRF, SDRF, local panchayats and volunteers continued with their efforts and coordination to help tourists cross over slides with safety and caution.

As informed by ADM Mangan, a total of 1225 tourists reached Mangan, today. With vehicles provided by Motor Vehicle Division under Transport department, the tourists were able to cover distance in cars where it was traversable. The rescued tourists expressed their gratitude to the state government, the administration, BRO, NDRF, SDRF and the locals for taking care of them and bringing them to safety.

Evacuation by air will be possible only if the weather permits, for which 6 MI helicopters are on standby at Bagdogra.

The district administration remains vigilant and prepared to tackle any challenges that may arise.
