**Mangaluru, December 2, 2024**: The Central Arecanut & Cocoa Marketing & Processing Cooperative Limited (CAMPCO) has formally approached Union Finance Minister, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, urging the government to fund detailed scientific research into the safety and potential anti-carcinogenic properties of Arecanut in its original form. CAMPCO has also requested that the necessary funds for this research be allocated in the upcoming Union Budget.

In a letter to the Finance Minister, CAMPCO President, Mr. A. Kishore Kumar Kodgi, emphasized the vital role Arecanut plays in supporting the livelihoods of millions of Indian farmers. With India cultivating Arecanut across 9.55 lakh hectares and producing 17–18 lakh metric tonnes annually, the sector is both economically and culturally significant. CAMPCO has also made notable contributions to the national economy, having remitted over ₹650 crores in GST since its implementation.

Hyderabad, Dec 1 (IANS): Kannada television actress Shobhita Shivanna, aged 29, was tragically found dead under suspicious circumstances at her residence in Sriram Nagar Colony, Gachibowli, Hyderabad. The actress was discovered hanging from the ceiling of her apartment on Sunday.

Neighbours alerted the authorities, and police swiftly arrived at the scene. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of death.

A seasoned British diplomat, Muna stepped into this prestigious role last year while serving at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in London. With a degree in Mathematics and Engineering from the University of Nottingham, she joined the British Foreign Service and has held notable positions, including Consulate General in Jerusalem and Deputy Head of Mission in Karachi, Pakistan.

In her current role, Muna manages King Charles' official programs and accompanies him on international trips. She resides in the UK with her husband, David, a UN official.

Muna is the daughter of the late Dr. Puthyapurayil Shamsuddin and Shahnaz from Talankara Theruvath. Her father, a distinguished professional, worked across the US, UK, and Saudi Arabia, eventually settling in Birmingham.

Anti-drug team in Mangaluru cracks down on drug peddling, arrests Mohammed Alfaz alias Alfa Pablo (24) with 53 grams of M**A worth Rs 7,76,980 ¹. The seized items include M**A, smoke pot, a car, and two mobile phones. Alfaz was supplying drugs to other middlemen and was linked to three youths arrested recently for possessing 50 grams of M**A. The total haul in two separate cases is 103 grams of M**A and properties worth Rs 15.52 lakh.

**Mangaluru, November 29, 2024**: A tragic incident unfolded in Bajpe as Pushparaj Shetty, a 45-year-old newspaper distributor, succumbed to injuries sustained in a bee attack. Shetty was attacked by a swarm of bees on the morning of November 27, while walking along the roadside at Kenjaru Tangadi. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he passed away on November 28, Thursday, from the severe injuries.

Shetty was a familiar face in the community, delivering newspapers door-to-door on foot in the Porkodi area. Known for his kindness, he was also remembered for distributing sweets to local schoolchildren on Independence Day. His untimely death has left the community in mourning.

**Mangaluru, November 28, 2024**: An FIR has been filed at Kavoor Police Station against activist Muneer Katipalla in connection with the recent protest demanding urgent attention to highway issues and the completion of the Nantur flyover and Kulur bridge. The protest was organized by the Suratkal Toll Gate Action Committee.

In response to the FIR, Muneer Katipalla, who serves as the convener of the action committee, condemned the move, stating that the suo-motu FIR was filed solely against him. He further alleged that the actions were being carried out at the behest of local BJP MLAs with the aim of suppressing public movements.
