**Mangaluru, December 2, 2024**: The Central Arecanut & Cocoa Marketing & Processing Cooperative Limited (CAMPCO) has formally approached Union Finance Minister, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, urging the government to fund detailed scientific research into the safety and potential anti-carcinogenic properties of Arecanut in its original form. CAMPCO has also requested that the necessary funds for this research be allocated in the upcoming Union Budget.

In a letter to the Finance Minister, CAMPCO President, Mr. A. Kishore Kumar Kodgi, emphasized the vital role Arecanut plays in supporting the livelihoods of millions of Indian farmers. With India cultivating Arecanut across 9.55 lakh hectares and producing 17–18 lakh metric tonnes annually, the sector is both economically and culturally significant. CAMPCO has also made notable contributions to the national economy, having remitted over ₹650 crores in GST since its implementation.

**Mangaluru, November 29, 2024**: A tragic incident unfolded in Bajpe as Pushparaj Shetty, a 45-year-old newspaper distributor, succumbed to injuries sustained in a bee attack.
