Lunawada is a town and a municipality in Panchmahal district in the state of Gujarat, India. The name Lunawada is derived from the Luneshwar Mahadev temple which is the temple of Lord Shiva. Lunawada is surrounded by water from all directions (Not an Island! ) Panam river, Vasant Sagar, Kanka Talav, Veri River and Darkoli Talav and two mountains. Lunawada was established by the forefathers of Maharaja Vir Bhadra Singh as the state of Virpur after which it had been renamed to the state of Lunawada. Before the town was established, the area was ruled under another princely state Santrampur which was ruled by Puwar Rajputs. The Border of Santrampur State is near Koyli Vaav presently known as Mandvi Bazar. The best historical place near lunawada is Kaleshwari where you can find healthy atmosphere as well as Pandav chori, foot prints of Bhima, ancient water kund, several vaavs and the Lord Shiva temple. . Etymology Lunawada is situated in the Panchmahal district of Gujarat State. The visitors can reach Lunawada via Godhara and Halol from the city of Vadodara. It is located at around 100 km away from the city of Vadodara and 120 km away from the Ahmedabad. Lunawada is mainly famous for the temple of Luneshwar Mahadev. This ancient Lord Shiva temple has lot of religious importance as it is said that Pandavas had stayed here at this temple for sometime during their stay in the forest. The Lord Shiva Lingam is shining white in color and made of white stone, found in the quarries of Madhya Pradesh. There is a Saint Kabir Ashram opposite to this Shiva temple. All the walls of this Ashram are engraved with the famous Dohas of Saint Kabir. Another ancient temple of Bhairavnath Mahadev is also situated near to Luneshwar Mahadev temple. This temple has statue of Bhairav in addition to Lord Shiva. The next is the temple of Melia Mahadev, which is situated at around 2 miles away from Lunawada town. Most of the local people come here to pray to fulfill their wishes and desires. A temple named mitha ganesh ni deri is situated in mandvi bazar( beside pipli fali) which is very famous. Every year a avery big celebration is done here on the day of ganesh chaturthi. Lunawada is the biggest Taluka in the panchmahal district. The main town contains every kind of community Like Hindus, Jains, Sindhis, Muslims and Dawoodi Bohras. A Peaceful town with great brotherhood. It is famous for Hospitals and clinics for surrounding talukas.
