Omar Abdullah meets Amit Shah, Calls for statehood restoration

Kupwara Times

New Delhi, Dec 9: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday to discuss key governance issues and the broader situation in the region.

This marked Omar Abdullah's second meeting with the Home Minister Amit Shah since his National Conference party secured a landslide victory in the October elections, enabling him to assume office as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory.

While talking to reporters after the meeting, Omar Abdullah said that the talks centered on governance challenges and the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

“Discussions on Kashmir’s situation, including the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, have been ongoing. It is hoped that these efforts will benefit the people and lead to the restoration of its statehood,” he said.

When questioned about whether the Transaction of Business Rules were also discussed, Omar Abdullah clarified, “It is our matter. It has no relation to the Government of India. The Transaction of Business Rules will be decided by Jammu and Kashmir’s elected government, approved by the Cabinet, and then sent to the Lieutenant Governor.” [KNT]
