Britannia biscuit factory in Taratala closed, hundreds of workers unemployed
Kolkata, June 24, 2024: In yet another blow to Bengal's industry, Britannia has shut down its factory in Taratala. The factory had 122 permanent and 250 temporary workers. It produced 2,500 tonnes of biscuits per year.
The closure of the factory is a major setback for the local economy. The workers are now facing an uncertain future. Many of them have been with the company for years and have no other means of livelihood.
The reasons for the closure are not yet clear. However, it is likely due to a combination of factors, such as rising input costs, declining sales, and increased competition.
The closure of the Britannia factory is a sad day for Bengal's industry. It is a reminder of the challenges facing the manufacturing sector in India.
