Tomb of legendary Urdu poet Mir Babbar Ali Anees. To understand how legendary Mir Anees was, there is a story of a person who also wrote marsiya in the same era of Mir Anees, his name was Mushi Aseer. He was a great poet, spent 20-25 years constructing 16 or 17 long Marsiyas. He happened to attend the majlis of Mir Anees on which Mir Anees recited "Jab qata ki musaafat-e-shab aaftab ne". Munshi Aseer was so overcome, he quietly went to his house, he picked up his 16 Marsiyas, went to the river and he sank them and said - In Front of Anees no one should be able to write a marsiya. Mir Anees dived deeply into the craft of Marsiya and found such precious gems which are unparalleled in Urdu To commemorate his death, Mirza Dabir, his rival and another legend in the genre, wrote: Aasmaan be mah-e-kaamil Sidrah be Rooh-ul-Ameen Toor-e-sina be Kaleem-ul-Lah Mimbar be Anees Translation: As if the sky without the full moon, As if Sidrah without Gabriel, As if Mount Torah without Moses Is the pulpit without Anees #miranees #urdu #rekhta #lucknowdiaries #poet #marsiya #moharram #azadari
