Bhowanipore is a residential district known for Netaji Bhawan, the former home of Indian nationalist Nataji Bose, now a museum with memorabilia, including a car used in his escape from house arrest. Grand, colonial edifices Nizam Palace and the Calcutta Club occupy busy Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road, also home to high-end hotels. Nearby is the huge, Raj-era Victoria Memorial museum, surrounded by formal gardens.
