When the person you love asks you to leave, it is one of the most gut-wrenching situations ever to be in. The heart fails to understand the reason behind any of it happening. It tries to deny any of it happening at all. The confusion, the doubts, the tears. Truth is, it hits you like a punch you never saw coming. Or did you?
The heart desperately wants to hold tight. To never let go of that person, or the shared memories, and everything that the two of you have built over time. You plead them to stay. To hold on for a little longer. To reconsider, and reconcile, but every attempt feels futile. Like a whisper lost in the storm of their decision. At one point, you start wondering if this is all even worth it. Is it worth chasing after someone who doesn’t even want to stay? Is it worth pining after someone to love you back? At some point, you feel like you have been robbed off your confidence and trust in relationships altogether. Truth is, misunderstanding and challenges are part of every relationship, but can things still be fixed after a point of no return?
Well, you can love someone with all your heart. But at the end of the day, it’s also about setting them free. Love is about giving your 100% into the relationship, but it’s also about knowing when to stop—knowing when to take a step back.
