Gaidinliu was born on January 26, 1915, in present-day Tamenglong district of Manipur and died in 1993. The Naga spiritual and political leader, who led an armed uprising against the British in Manipur, Nagaland and Assam, belonged to the Rongmei tribe (also known as Kabui). In 1927, at the age of 13, Gaidinliu, along with her cousin Haipou Jadonang, joined the Heraka movement, which aimed at revival of the Naga tribal religion and establish self-rule of the Nagas (Naga Raj) ending the British rule.

She was arrested in 1932 when she was just 16 and was sentenced to life imprisonment by the British rulers. Between 1932 and 1947, the Naga freedom fighter was kept at several prisons across the Northeast.

The revolutionary movement of the western hills of Manipur was popularly known by historians as the Naga Raj movement. It received considerable momentum when 100 guns were brought from Cachar in Assam, and the declaration was made to boycott British taxation and forced labour. In 1931, while returning with Gaidinliu from ‘Bhubon Cave’ in Cachar, Haipou Jadonang was captured by the British. He was hanged, and Gaidinliu took over the leadership and challenged the British. When the British rule tried to suppress her movement, she went underground along with her followers. After that, a fierce gun battle took place in Hangrum village in the North Cachar hills with the British army and the extensive village was set ablaze by the colonial rulers.

After being released in 1947 she continued to work for the betterment of the community. Nehru described Gaidinliu as the “daughter of the hills” and he gave her the title of ‘Rani’ for her courage. She was also awarded a Padma Bhushan.

The state government has developed a park along with a statue to honour the late freedom fighter in Silchar, Assam.

The Government of India issued a postal stamp in her honour in 1996, and a commemorative coin in 2015.

An eight-year-old boy from Nagaland has proved that age is no barrier when it comes to innovation.

Having already become one of the youngest persons to have developed a mobile app that is now available for download on Google Play Store, Zaiyigum Zeliang of Hollotoli School here is now working on an app christened PTI for school teachers and parents to monitor the performance of students.

Called Daily Routine Scheduler, the first app he developed is a simple yet interesting app for kids to schedule their daily activities during summer break. But the second app he is developing is more complex and he is using advanced programming skills.

He envisions the PTI app to be very helpful for day-to-day use for teachers and parents to monitor students’ performances at schools on a daily, weekly, monthly or in whichever mode the schools find it handy, upload periodical assessment results, teachers and parents feedback, Q&A, student database, etc.

Zaiyigum was strictly barred from using smartphones at home, unlike other kids. And he, being an obedient boy, never let his parents down.

He has enrolled for advanced courses in artificial intelligence and space technology at White Hat Jr.

Meanwhile, Zaiyigum became the first student from Nagaland to complete the 144 BEG classes and achieved the “Wall of Fame” with a white hat on his leaderboard. He is now amongst the 1% student base at White Hat Junior and one of the youngest kids to have completed 144 BEG classes. He is now a certified Full Stack Developer with Core Programming Skills, Design Thinking & advanced AI App Developmental Skills. This was stated in a press release.

Following the legacy of Dr T Ao, the frontman of Indian football, the sport in Nagaland is gradually picking up in the subsequent years. Now, the news of Naga youth Ratobe Poireng’s selection to a European football club is opening a new window to the world for footballers of the state.

Currently he is in Sweden’s Malmo city. Speaking to Nagaland Post, Poireng expressed happiness over joining an European club. "I’m so happy that I am the first Naga to join an European football club and I thank God for hearing my prayer. I can’t really wait to play with my new team," he said. He further acknowledged his family members and advisor of Youth Resources and Sports, Zale Niekha for their support and encouragement. After one month of intense training and tryouts, he will be playing in the 4th division team at the initial stage with the scope of progressing to a higher division in the upcoming season.

Poireng had previously participated in a tryout in the 1st division of Bundesliga club – Hannover 96. It was learnt that the club showed great interest for future inclusion of the midfielder.

Meanwhile, the department of Youth Resources and Sports has wished Poireng the very best in his future endeavours.

Through Ngurie, he has also endeavoured the manufacturing of organic fertilizers for soil health, plant growth and development in the fields of Agriculture, Floriculture and Horticulture.
The company’s products provide a wide range of organic nitrogen fixation fertilizers, plant growth enhancers and plant Organic Agriculture in solid fertilizers.

Peihauding also founded a coaching centre in Jalukie under the name ‘Kendeu’ for Classes 8 and 9. They are expanding the centre to Peren.

For all his inventions, he also received numerous recognitions including Nobel Prize Series, Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat by the Ministry of Biotechnology Government of India (2017);Top 1 position and Best North East Project from IIT Guwahati (2017); Nagaland Innovation Entrepreneur Fund, Entrepreneur Associate (2018); Recognition from Governor of Nagaland (2018);2nd & 3rd Position in Nagaland Innovation Expo (2018/2019); Hero of the State, Startup Nagaland, 2018, Department of Industries and Commerce(DI&C)); Iris Program, Tokyo Japan under Disaster Management and Tree Plantation category (2020); Cohort in Young Leaders Access Program, New York (2020); 1st Position in Lock Down Challenge, DI&C (2020); 1st Runner Up in Startup Nagaland, DI&C (2022); 1st Position, Innovation Challenge in YouthNet Incubation Centre, StartUp Nagaland Policy, DI&C (2022); and North East Green Innovation Award, Hornbill by Quest Alliance and 16 NE CSOs (2022), Youth Excellence Award (ZBCCYD), Selected in IIM Calcutta and recognised as top Start up in NE Region Bharat Pichathon by Starthead

Chireuding Zeliang, did his schooling from All Saints Higher Secondary School, Peren and graduated with first class in Bachelor of electrical engineering from North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) India in 2012.

After clearing Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), he pursued Master’s degree in Nuclear engineering and technology from India Institute and Technology (IIT) Kanpur and graduated with a first class in 2015.

In 2016-18 he cleared his degree in master of applied science in nuclear engineering, with first class from University of Ontario, Canada. Chireuding, is currently working at the capacity of a nuclear scientist/engineer in the Canadian nuclear energy industry.

He had also worked with renowned scientists at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) United Nations Austria (2015-16) to support the development and deployed of advanced modular nuclear reactors around the globe.

His work and research were focussed on probabilistic risk assessment of nuclear plants, nuclear accidents sequence modelling and analysis and development of innovative small modular nuclear reactors.

Chireuding’s research was also focussed on uncertainty analysis of shutdown system of fast reactor, which was published in an international journal (2013-15).

Chireuding also pursued his research on development of algorithms for probabilistic reactor dynamics to capture the evolution of accident sequences in nuclear plants, and to avoid state-space explosion.

He also served as the co-scientific investigator for an International Atomic Energy (IAEA) collaborative research project involving 15 countries and represented Canada at several IAEA technical meetings to discuss the risk and challenges posed by passive nuclear systems.

Several of his works have also been published in International journals, including presentation on advanced dynamic nuclear risk assessment technique at the annual American nuclear society conference at Pittsburg

Chawang, who is an Engineer by profession and an inventor at heart, was born and brought up
in Dimapur and belongs to the Liangmai tribe, originally hailing from Peren district.
After completing her high school, higher secondary and graduation from Dimapur itself, she
moved to the US and completed her Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the
University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), Texas, USA.
She went on to obtain her Ph.D degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU), Dallas,
Texas in the USA. Chawang informed that she received research funding and worked as a
research assistant during her Master’s and Ph.D (pursuing).

Talking about her invention, she informed that the flexible pH sensor is just two millimetres in
length and 10 millimetres wide, making it possible to incorporate the device into current food
packaging methods, such as plastic wrapping.
Stating that even with 21st-century technology, food waste is a global crisis in developed as
well as developing countries, she informed that about 1.3 billion tonnes of fresh food are lost
during harvest, transportation and in retail stores in developed countries.
