5 sheep killed in suspected leopard attack in chandyar.

BANI, DECEMBER 27: At least 5 sheep were killed in a suspected leopard attack in Chandyar village of Bani tehsil of Kathua district.
Owners Muhammad Rafi and Muhammad Younis say that when they went to graze the sheep this evening, they found many sheep covered in blood outside the shed. "Given the nature of the wounds, it appears to be a leopard attack," he added.
The villagers appealed the Wildlife Department officials to contain the movement of wild animals in and around the human habitation.

They also appealed to the government to provide compensation to the affected livestock owner.

DC Kathua takes appraisal of Health and ICDS Sector

Calls for saturating AB-PMJAY, ABHA registration

KATHUA, December 26: Deputy Commissioner, Kathua Dr. Rakesh Minhas today chaired a meeting to review the health services scenario in the district.

The meeting was attended by PO ICDS Shokat Mahmood, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vijay Raina, District Tuberculosis Officer Kathua Dr. Radhakrishnan, BMOs, besides concerned officers and officials of health & POSHAN department.

While explaining the district health care profile through powerpoint presentation, the official from Health Department apprised that a total of 252 health institutions including 5 CHCs, 24 PHCs, and 153 Sub-Centres are functioning in the district in addition to the premier institute of GMC Kathua.

A threadbare discussion was held on various issues like availability of Health Infra, Health Care achievements, Patient care, FW and Immunization and other related issues.

The DC also took feedback about the implementation of various schemes and programmes under National Health Mission, including RBSK, VHND besides saturation of AB-PMJAY.

The DC asked for focusing on efficient delivery of health services in all health institutions to facilitate public. He also called for 100% saturation of AB-PMJAY beneficiaries along with ABHA registration.

Expressing his concern over low institutional deliveries in the district, the DC asked the concerned to work out a mechanism for intervention and inter-departmental coordination to improve maternal and child care facilities. He called for enquiring the reasons behind prevalence of Home deliveries and increasing the institutional deliveries.

While discussing the check on the ultrasonography clinics, the DC called upon concerned officers to ensure no illegal practices shall prevail in the district.

On issue of Patient Hypertension & TB Screening form, DC Called for proper training of staff involved and suggested adding Occupation field along with Smoking History of the individuals in the form so as to have comprehensive database. The DC also called for expediting the screening and completing the process within 2 months.

While reviewing status of SAM and MAM children, the DC Called for bringing the cases out by making improvement in their nutrition and providing other necessary assistance.

The DC also called for sharing of RCH and HMIS data with ICDS Department on monthly basis which will make tracking of pregnant women / deliveries easier.

The DC also urged the BMOs to enquire and know the reasons behind home deliveries besides focusing on increasing surgery rate (Major Surgeries) in CHCs thus helping the maximum number of people.

The meeting also discussed about Status of Family Planning, Status of immunisation, Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana - for senior citizens aged 70 and above, NHM financial Progress, NTEP and Adult BCG Vaccination.

It was also given out in the meeting that Distribution of medicine (Iron tablets) to children and Women visiting the AWCs should take place in presence of Staff of Health Department during VHND. DC said these programmes will benefit maximum people when done in convergence with active involvement of all stakeholders.

The DC emphasized the need for convergence and active involvement of all stakeholders to maximize the benefits of healthcare programmes.

The meeting ended with the resolve that all health units will bring qualitative change in the delivery of health services for the welfare of the common masses.

21st District Water Skiing Championships Commence at Ranjit Sagar Dam, Basohli

Kathua, December 26, 2024: The much-anticipated 21st District Water Skiing Championships have officially kicked off today at the picturesque Ranjit Sagar Dam in Basohli, Kathua. The event, scheduled from December 26 to December 28, 2024, brings together talented athletes from across the district to showcase their skills in this thrilling water sport.

Organized by the District Water Sports Association, the championship aims to promote water sports and tourism in the region, which is blessed with scenic beauty and water resources ideal for such events. Participants will compete across various categories, including slalom, trick skiing, and wakeboarding.

The opening ceremony witnessed an enthusiastic gathering of athletes, dignitaries, and spectators. The Chief Guest DDC Chairman Retd . Col. Mahan Singh and MLA Basholi Darshan Singh , and on the occasion A D C Anil Kumar Thakur , CEO BBDA. AJIT Singh , officer of sports council Sr B.P Singh (Div Sports officer ) and large numbers people were present . inaugurated the championship, emphasizing the significance of such events in fostering sportsmanship and providing a platform for local talent to shine.

"Ranjit Sagar Dam is a jewel of our district, and hosting this championship here not only encourages sports but also highlights the potential of Basohli as a water sports destination," said that this championship promises three days of thrilling action, with participants for top honors and spectators enjoying the breathtaking displays of skill and agility on the water. The event is expected to conclude on December 28, 2024, with an award ceremony celebrating the champions.

This initiative is a testament to the growing popularity of water skiing in the district and reflects the efforts of local authorities and sports organizations to nurture and promote talent in the Region.

Kathua: Director Skill Development chairs review meeting to accelerate Mission YUVA implementation

Kathua, December 24 : A district-level review meeting under Mission YUVA was held today at the Conference Hall, DC Office Complex, Kathua, under the chairmanship of Director Skill Development and District Nodal Officer, Mission YUVA OP Bhagat.

The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Kathua, Assistant Director Employment (AD Employment), and District Statistics & Evaluation Officer along with Block Development Officers (BDOs), Master Trainers, and Supervisors nominated under the mission.

The meeting held detailed deliberations on smooth implementation Udhyam Jagriti Campaign under which BDOs were directed to emphasize the Udhyam Jagriti Campaigns under Mission YUVA and intensify Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities in their respective blocks to raise awareness and promote youth engagement.

Besides, Master Trainers and Supervisors were apprised of the objectives and importance of Mission YUVA and were instructed to take the baseline survey with utmost seriousness.
It was given out in the meeting that the baseline survey will be conducted from January 1, 2025, to January 31, 2025, and is a critical step in assessing and addressing the needs of the youth under the mission.

The meeting underscored the role of Mission YUVA in empowering youth through skill development, entrepreneurship opportunities, and capacity building. The participants were urged to ensure timely ex*****on of tasks and seamless coordination to achieve the mission’s objectives.

The session concluded with a commitment to mobilize resources and strengthen outreach efforts, reaffirming the district administration’s focus on youth empowerment and economic development.

DC Kathua flags-off Red Cross Volunteers to attend National Youth Exchange Programme at Amritsar

Kathua, December 24: The Indian Red Cross Society, Kathua, organized a flag-off ceremony today at DC Complex, Kathua, to send off its contingent of volunteers for the National Youth Exchange Programme being held in Amritsar, Punjab.

The ceremony was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Kathua, and Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Kathua Dr Rakesh Minhas.

ADC Kathua Ranjit Singh, Secretary, IRCS Kathua, Om Parkash Sharma, Chief Education Officer, Kathua Mangat Ram Sharma and several members of the Red Cross Society and District Administration.

The other attendees who were present on the ocassion including Member, District Management Committee, IRCS Kathua Khem Raj Sharma, DICC Kathua Monika Khosla,

Kathua Admin kicks off Udhyam Jagriti Campaign under Mission YUVA

Campaign to capacitate, incentivise potential entrepreneurs in all 257 panchayats of the district: DC.

Kathua, December 21: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, today launched the Udhyam Jagriti Campaign under Mission Yuva at Panchayat Sahar in Kathua. The event, organized by the Department of Labour, aimed to promote entrepreneurship and skill development among young entrepreneurs.

Pertinently, the Udhyam Jagriti Campaign is part of Mission YUVA (Yuva Udhyami Vikas Abhiyan), which seeks to bridge the gap between the region's youth and market-oriented skills and employability. The campaign is designed to provide a platform for young entrepreneurs to access resources, support, and guidance.

At the outset, a detailed PowerPoint presentation was given by the Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) Kathua Piyusha Khajuria, highlighting the benefits of Mission Yuva for young entrepreneurs. The presentation emphasized the support and subsidies, training, and skill development provided under the scheme, including business guidance, market connectivity, government subsidy, and collateral-free loans.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, urged the youth to make the most of the available opportunities. He expressed the administration's commitment to organizing similar events in all 257 panchayats across the district, aiming to benefit the maximum number of people from the support and subsidies, training, and skill development provided under the scheme.

Highlighting the uniqueness of the initiative, Deputy Commissioner Kathua stated that Mission YUVA adopts a bottom-up approach, integrating all schemes of different departments to cater to a wide range of entrepreneurs, including small, micro, nano, and medium enterprises.

The Career Counselling Officer (CCO) Surjeet Kumar threw light on the launch of the "Youth Skill & Entrepreneurship App," designed by Mission Yuva, which will benefit the youth in entrepreneurship development. The app is freely available on the Google Play store, he informed.

An official from the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) also addressed the gathering, sharing insights and expertise on entrepreneurship and skill development.

DC Kathua reviews progress of POSHAN Projects

Directs expedited construction of Anganwadi Centres

Kathua, December 19: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas chaired a meeting of concerned officers to review the overall progress of POSHAN projects in the district.

The meeting was attended by PO POSHAN Shokat Mahmood, ACR Kathua Vishav Partap Singh, ACD Akhil Sadotra, CPO Kathua Ranjit Thakur, CMO Dr. Vijay Raina, DEPO Karamjit Singh and CDPOs.

During the meeting, the DC took stock of the construction of Anganwadi Centres being relocated from rented accommodations to nearby Government School premises. It was informed that a proposal for constructing 143 Anganwadi Centres has been formulated, with 127 Government Schools already identified for the purpose.

Dr. Minhas directed ACR Kathua to ensure that the remaining 16 Anganwadi Centres are provided suitable land through coordination with concerned Tehsildars under the Convergence of Schemes initiative.

The meeting also reviewed the physical and financial achievements under key welfare schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and the Laadli Beti scheme.

PO POSHAN Shokat Mahmood briefed the meeting on the progress of recruitment of Sanginis and Sahayikas under various project phases.

Further, the DC instructed CMO Kathua to regularly share data on the periodic health check-ups of children enrolled in Anganwadis and Government Schools. He emphasized intensified care for children identified under the Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) categories to improve their overall health and well-being.
