Rule of law non-negotiable; disturbance of peace will not be tolerated: Rajiv Jasrotia
Jammu has long been recognised for its social harmony, cultural pluralism, and deep respect for the rule of law. However, recent incidents reported from the Narwal area of Jammu, allegedly involving illegal Rohingya settlers, have emerged as a matter of serious concern, raising pressing questions over law and order, internal security, and administrative vigilance, especially in the context of the highly sensitive Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
Expressing grave concern over the situation, BJP MLA from Jasrota, Shri Rajiv Jasrotia, stated that the growing unease among residents regarding their safety, livelihoods, and social stability cannot be brushed aside. He emphasized that any individual or group—irrespective of origin—living illegally and found involved in disturbing public peace must face firm and lawful action. He asserted that no society can remain peaceful if violations of law are tolerated or selectively ignored.
Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, the MLA noted that the Narwal incident once again underscores the risks associated with unchecked illegal settlements. “Jammu & Kashmir shares international borders and has a history of security challenges. In such a sensitive region, unauthorized habitation by foreign nationals is not merely an administrative lapse but a potential security threat,” he said, adding that the concerns raised by local residents are genuine and warrant immediate attention.
Clarifying his stand, Rajiv Jasrotia categorically stated that the issue is not about prejudice, but about illegality and maintenance of public order. “India is governed by the Constitution and the rule of law. While compassion and humanity are integral to our values, they must go hand in hand with legal accountability and national interest. Any person residing in the country without valid documentation is violating Indian law, and the administration is duty-bound to act,” he asserted.
The MLA strongly urged the UT Administration and law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the Narwal incident and take befitting action against all those responsible for disturbing peace and order. He further demanded a comprehensive verification drive to identify all foreign nationals living illegally in Jammu & Kashmir.
Shri Jasrotia stressed that those found residing illegally in the UT must be immediately deported strictly as per law, without delay or discrimination. He warned that prolonged inaction only emboldens illegal networks and erodes public confidence in governance.
Drawing attention to the wider impact, he pointed out that illegal settlements put undue pressure on local resources, employment opportunities, and civic amenities, besides creating fear and resentment among local communities, thereby threatening social harmony. “The rights, security, and dignity of the citizens of Jammu & Kashmir must remain paramount,” he asserted.
Reiterating the stand of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the MLA said that the party has always upheld national security, strict adherence to the law, and zero tolerance towards activities that threaten peace and stability. He reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to ensuring that Jammu & Kashmir continues on the path of peace, development, and stability, free from fear and insecurity.
Concluding his statement, Rajiv Jasrotia said that the situation in Narwal should act as a wake-up call. “Jammu & Kashmir cannot afford administrative complacency on issues of illegal immigration and law and order. Firm, lawful, and transparent action is the need of the hour. Upholding the law is not optional—it is an obligation,” he said.He added that the people of Jammu rightfully expect decisive and responsible governance, and their safety, confidence, and trust in the system must never be compromised.
