*DC Kathua presides over Awareness Camp on Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana*

*Kathua, December 13:* Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, today presided over an awareness camp on the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM SGMBY), organized by the Power Development Department (PDD) at the DC Office Complex.

The event was part of the ongoing outreach campaign by District Administration Kathua aimed at educating the public about the scheme's substantial benefits and encouraging participation.

Highlighting the lucrative incentives under the scheme, the DC informed that PM SGMBY offers a subsidy of over 65% on the installation of solar rooftop units. He noted that a 3 KW solar unit, priced at ₹1.60 lakh, requires a subscriber investment of only ₹65,000, ensuring zero electricity bills and free power generation. The solar panels come with a 25-year warranty, eliminating maintenance costs and ensuring long-term savings.

Dr. Minhas also urged the public to obtain legal electricity connections, refrain from electricity theft, and be responsible citizens by availing themselves of the scheme’s benefits.

Speaking on the occasion, XEN PDD Kathua explained that the camp facilitated on-the-spot registration of interested households through government-approved vendors. He also informed attendees that Jammu & Kashmir Bank is offering financial assistance, providing loans at a 7% interest rate for up to 95% of the project’s cost.

Among others present were Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua Ranjit Singh, Chief Planning Officer Ranjeet Thakur, other district and sectoral officers, PDD officials, and a large gathering of the general public.

02 HARDCORE DRUG PEDDLERS BOOKED UNDER PITNDPS - PSA (PUBLIC SAFETY ACT).

KATHUA, 12 DEC; J&K Police Kathua under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, apprehended two hardcore drug peddlers within the kathua district who were habitual drug peddlers involved in possession and transportation of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in different NDPS Cases at PS Kathua & PS Rajbagh.
In the first instance, a Police team led by Insp. Ajay Singh Chib SHO P/S Kathua under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kathua Sh. Manjeet Singh apprehended one Drug Peddler namely Gurnam Singh S/o Bui Lal R/O Chak Drab Khan Kathua who is habitual drug peddler involved in possession and transportation of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in different NDPS Cases at PS Kathua vide 1. FIR No.s 19/2021 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS ACT, 2. FIR No. 233/2021 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS Act, 3. FIR No. 146/2023 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS Act 4. FIR No. 11/2024 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act respectively. A detention warrant under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances PIT-NDPS Act- 1988 was issued against him by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu vide order No.49 of 2024 dated 09/12/2024.
In order to prevent the illegal activities in drug trafficking in the district, "Dossier" was prepared against the accused person and sent to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu for his detention under PITNDPS Act- 1988 (PSA). Accordingly Divisional Commissioner, Jammu issued a detention warrant against the accused person under the PITNDPS Act. Accordingly, the warrant has been executed and he has been lodged in Central Kot-Bhalwal Jail Jammu to curtail his activities in drug peddling so that the future of the youth of the district could be saved from the clutches of drug peddlers.
While in the second instance, a Police team led by Insp. Rajeshwar Slathia SHO P/S Rajbagh assisted by IC PP Marheen PSI Ravinder Singh under the supervision of SDPO Border Sh. Dheeraj Singh Katoch JKPS apprehended one lady Drug Peddler/Habitual Smuggler/Criminal namely Asha Bibi W/o Mohd. Sadiq R/o Khanpur Tehsil Marheen District Kathua who is habitual drug peddler/Smuggler involved in possession and transportation of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in different NDPS Cases at PS Rajbagh vide FIR No's 294/2023 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS & FIR No. 104/2024 U/S 8/21/22/ NDPS respectively. KATHUA, 12 DEC;
Continuing its efforts to discourage the trade and transportation of illicit liquor, J&K Police Kathua under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua arrested one bootlegger & recovered 22 bottles of JK Excise Whisky (250 ml each) from his possession in the jurisdictional area of PS Basohli.

On 11-12-2024 police team of PS Basohli under the supervision of SDPO Basohli & SHO PS Basohli during naka/ checking in its Jurisdictional area apprehended one person namely Kehar Singh S/o Raghunath Singh R/o Poonda Tehsil Mahanpur District Kathua who was enrouted under suspicious circumstances.During checking 22 Bottles of JK Excise Whisky were recovered from his illegal possesion which he had kept in his possesion in order to gain illegitimate profit by selling same to people of concerned area.Meanwhile all the recovered consignment of illicit liquor i.e 22 bottles of JK Excise Whisky were seized and one person arrested in this connection.
In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 74/2024 U/S 48 (f) Excise Act stands registered at PS Basohli and investigation has been initiated.

SSP Kathua assures that strict action will be taken against anyone caught involved in illegal Trade/transportation of illicit liquor.
The general public appreciates the efforts of Kathua Police in seizing the Illcit liquor and apprehending the accused and believes that such actions will deter others from engaging in similar activities.

KATHUA; 12 DEC:- J&K Police Kathua while continuing its drive on Drugs putting concrete efforts to eradicate the drugs menace and in consequence J&K Police Kathua recovered/seized approx. 16 Grams of Heroin(Chitta) like narcotics at Korepunnu area of PP Marheen & one person was arrested alongwith 01 motorbike was also seized in this connection.
On 11.12.2024 a police team led by IC PP Marheen under the supervision of SDPO Border and SHO PS Rajbagh laid down a routine naka/patrolling at Korepunnu area, and during naka checking they apprehended one suspect namely 1.Liaqyat Ali S/o Sharied Mohd. R/o Korepunnu Tehsil Marheen District Kathua who was found roaming under suspicious circumstances in Korepunnu area on his motorbike bearing Reg. No. PB06AN-5377. On Physical search, approximately 16 grams of he**ine (chitta) like narcotics was recovered from his illegal possession.Thereafter all the recovered narcotics approx. 16 grams he**in alongwith vehicle was seized and one person was arrested on the spot. On this ,a case FIR No. 259/2024 U/S 8/21/22/ NDPS Act stands registered at P/S Rajbagh and further investigation is under process.

BOPEE Organises One Day Counselling cm Awareness Camp at Bani

Kathua, December 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) organised a counselling cm awareness camp at Government Higher Secondary School, Bani in District Kathua to educate students about the counselling schedule for admission to various professional courses in UT of J&K for the session 2025-26.

The camp aimed to address the issue of low enrolment and vacant seats in local colleges due to lack of information and awareness among students about available courses, eligibility criteria, and admission processes. BOPEE officials and experts interacted with students, addressing their concerns and providing insights on the benefits of pursuing higher education within the state.

The camp highlighted the advantages of studying in local colleges, including lower fees, familiar environment, and better job opportunities. It also emphasized the importance of filling up vacant seats to avoid wastage of resources and opportunities.

Professor Surinder Sharma, Member BOPEE, expressed concern about students opting for colleges outside the UT and facing difficulties. He apprised students about vacancies, courses available, competitive exams required, basic qualification, number of seats, registration process, allotment of seats, and other aspects of the admission process.

The awareness camp was attended by lecturers and teachers with a science stream background, along with students from various schools. Tehsildar Bani, Predhyum Attri, and the Principal of Government Higher Secondary School, Bani, were also present on the occasion.

This awareness camp was the first in a series of initiatives planned by BOPEE to reach out to students in the district. Two more such camps will be organised in the district in the coming days, with the aim of covering all areas and ensuring that maximum number of students benefit from these initiatives.
