700 years old Satpula Dam Saket, Delhi

Location :select City Walk Saket Nr Malviya Nagar Metro Station

Built in 1340 by Mohammad Bin Tughlaq, the dam served two purposes: Providing a reliable source of water for irrigation, and acting as a defence against possible intruders.

short article insertCenturies later, the stream over which the dam was built was diverted by the British, reducing the water body to a mere drain flowing on one side. However, the Satpula structure remains formidable as ever, reminding one of the type of masonry the empire was capable of.

Madhi Masjid in 15th Century

Location: Near Qutab minar Metro station

Madhi Masjid is a magnificent monument, with an impressive gate , you are tempted to visit this place . By appearance it looks like a structure from early Mughal times . Although it was a masjid, the whole place looks like a fortress . Once you reach here , you can spend some time. Governor Amolak Rattan Kohli

The structure is believed to be from the 15th century, which places it in the Lodi Era. Probably even the authorities are not sure about the exact history of this monument and that is why it lacks any clear documentation. It’s located just by the side of the Mehrauli Archaeological Park but not exactly within the boundaries of the park. There’s a security guard positioned inside but he will not stop you - anyone can go inside and there is no entry fee either.

Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahān (reigned 1628–58) to immortalize his wife Mumtaz Mahal (“Chosen One of the Palace”), who died in childbirth in 1631, having been the emperor’s inseparable companion since their marriage in 1612. India’s most famous and widely recognized building, it is situated in the eastern part of the city on the southern (right) bank of the Yamuna (Jumna) River. Agra Fort (Red Fort), also on the right bank of the Yamuna, is about 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the Taj Mahal.

In its harmonious proportions and its fluid incorporation of decorative elements, the Taj Mahal is distinguished as the finest example of Mughal architecture, a blend of Indian, Persian, and Islamic styles. Other attractions include twin mosque buildings (placed symmetrically on either side of the mausoleum), lovely gardens, and a museum. One of the most beautiful structural compositions in the world, the Taj Mahal is also one of the world’s most iconic monuments, visited by millions of tourists each year. The complex was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.

Lal Gumbad – Tomb of a Sufi Saint

Lal Gumbad (meaning “red dome”, somewhat curious as it does not have one) is the resting place of Sheikh Kabir-ud-din Auliya, a Sufi saint who was the 14th disciple of Shaikh Chirag-i-Dilli, the spiritual successor of Nizamuddin Auliya. Almost else nothing is known about Kabir-ud-din, who lived during the reign of the Tughlaq dynasty Emperor Mohammed-bin-Tughlaq (who built Jahanpanah, considered to be the fourth city of Delhi) and died around 1397 A.D. In his book, City of Djinns, William Dalrymple calls Kabir-ud-din “an impoverished mendicant” and a “wandering Sufi

Nili Masjid

Location: Nili Masjid Hauzkhas

Nili Masjid is one of the older structures around. It was built in the Lodi era, like a lot of other similar looking structure in South Delhi. It is believed that Kausambi who was a royal nurse, got it built in 1505-06 which was the time of Sikander Lodi. She looked after the son of Khan-i-Azam Khawas Khan, who was a powerful official of the kingdom.
