Jammu, December 11: Acting on directives from Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Jammu, Dr Rajesh Kumar along with his team, conducted inspections at eight ultrasound and imaging centres in Bakshi Nagar area today. The exercise aimed to ensure strict compliance with the Pre-Conception & Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act and assess the centres' overall functioning.

During the inspection, one facility was found operating with an expired registration, a clear violation of the PCPNDT Act. The centre was immediately sealed and its proprietors directed to resume operations only after renewed registration.

The action follows a stern warning issued by DC Jammu, who also serves as the Chairman of the District Advisory Committee for the PCPNDT Act. He has emphasised zero tolerance for any breach of rules and called for heightened vigilance to curb illegal practices at such centres.

Airtel releases spam report that analyses the trends observed on its network since the launch of its spam solution

Jammu: December 09, 2024: Bharti Airtel, India’s first spam-fighting network, has flagged a staggering 8 billion spam calls and 0.8 billion spam SMSes within two and a half months of launching its AI-powered, spam-fighting solution. Leveraging this advanced algorithm, the AI-powered network has successfully identified close to 1 million spammers every day.
The company, in the last 2.5 months, has alerted close to 252 million unique customers to these suspicious calls and has observed that there has been a 12% decline in the number of customers answering them. Six percent of all calls on the Airtel network have been identified as spam calls, while 2% of all SMSes have also been identified as spam. Interestingly, it has been observed that a staggering 35% of the spammers have used landline telephones.
Additionally, customers in Delhi have received the maximum number of spam calls, followed by customers in Andhra Pradesh and Western Uttar Pradesh. Delhi is also where a maximum number of the spam calls have originated, followed by Mumbai and Karnataka. In terms of SMSes, the maximum number have originated in Gujarat followed by Kolkata and Uttar Pradesh and the maximum number of customers targeted have been from Mumbai, Chennai and Gujarat.
As per the trends, 76% of all spam calls have been targeted at male customers. Additionally, distinct differences have been noted in terms of spam call frequency across age demographics. Customers in the age bracket of 36-60 have received 48% of all spam calls, while those in the 26-35 age bracket have been the second-most targeted, accounting for 26% of spam calls. Approximately only 8% of the spam calls have landed in the handsets of senior citizens.
The company's findings have also shed light on the hourly distribution of spam activity. Spam calls commence from 9 am onwards and gradually escalate in volume as the day progresses. The peak of spam activity is observed between noon and 3 pm, during which the highest concentration of spam calls occur. Moreover, there is a notable disparity in the frequency of spam calls between weekdays and weekends. The volume of these calls diminishes by around 40% on Sundays. Specifically, devices in the price range of 15,000 to 20,000 rupees are the recipients of approximately 22% of all spam calls.
By meticulously examining a multitude of parameters, the AI-driven system has been able to identify these unwanted intrusions in real-time with remarkable accuracy. This groundbreaking initiative has firmly established Airtel as the first service provider in India to offer a comprehensive solution to the growing menace of spam, setting new industry standards for inclusive security measures that prioritise the privacy and convenience of its vast customer base.

University of Jammu Research Scholars Elect JURSA Team with Unanimous Consensus

Jammu, December 9, 2024: A historic gathering of research scholars from the University of Jammu was held today at Jantar Mantar to announce the new team of the Jammu University Research Scholars Association (JURSA). The event saw participation from around 100 scholars, who showed great enthusiasm and unity in electing the office bearers. The elections were conducted with full majority and consensus, marking a significant step towards strengthening the voice of research scholars.
The newly elected JURSA office bearers are as follows:

• President: Mr. Anirudh Raina, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management

• Vice President: Mr. Gagandeep Singh Sasan, Department of English

• Vice President: Mr. Divyam Kalsotra, Department of Law

The event was skillfully moderated by Mr. Divyam Kalsotra, who also announced the team members.
The General Secretaries representing various streams include:

• Miss Anjum Imtiaz (Biotechnology)

• Mr. Tahir Shakeel (Sociology)

• Mr. Manik Sharma (Economics)

• Mr. Mukhtar (Botany)

• Mr. Ankush Sharma (DSRS)

• Mr. Suhail Ahmad (Remote Sensing)

• Mr. Sumeet Kumar (Law Department)

Additionally, Mr. Amir Malik from the Department of Management was appointed to handle Public Relations and Liaisoning.

In his presidential address, Mr. Anirudh Raina highlighted the pressing issues faced by research scholars and called for immediate attention to bridge the gap between university authorities and scholars. He emphasized key issues, including:

• Increasing the basic pay of contractual faculty in line with UGC norms.

• Giving priority to University of Jammu alumni for permanent recruitment, as practiced by other universities.

• Redressing academic grievances of scholars, particularly those related to GATE scholarships and university research scholarships.

He noted that while unions exist for faculty and non-teaching staff, no student elections have been held since 2017, leaving research scholars without an organized platform.

Addressing the way forward, Mr. Raina emphasized a collaborative approach for problem-solving:

1. Regular dialogues and meetings with university authorities to address scholars' issues in a structured manner,
2. Establishing a grievance cell within JURSEA to document and escalate problems faced by research scholars effectively.
3. Partnering with faculty unions to advocate for common concerns, such as better facilities and funding for research.
4. Creating awareness campaigns to ensure all scholars are informed about available scholarships, policies, and support mechanisms.
5. Formulating actionable plans to push for timely implementation of reforms, particularly in financial and administrative processes affecting scholars.

Mr. Raina assured the gathering of his commitment to addressing their concerns with sincerity and urged all scholars to actively participate in strengthening JURSEA's efforts. The event marked a pivotal moment for research scholars, reflecting their unity and determination to ensure their voices are heard and their issues are resolved effectively.
