Srinagar, Jun 27 (KNO): In a significant development, Jammu & Kashmir’s chief electoral officer has written to the district election officers (DEOs) to start the activities listed in the Election Commission of India’s election planner for holding assembly polls in the Union Territory.

In a letter, a copy of which is in possession of news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the CEO has written to all 20 deputy commissioners, who also happen to be the district election officers, to begin the activities to be undertaken as the “election planner” communicated by the ECI.

“As you are aware that the process of conducting elections to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu & Kashmir has been set in motion by Election Commission of India by issuing schedule for summary revision of electoral roll vide its letter No: 23/2024-ERS(vol.III) dated 20-06-2024. I am accordingly directing you to get started the activities envisaged in the election planner communicated by Election Commission of India vide letter No: 464/INST/2022-EPS dated 27-12-2022 so that the pre-poll activities are carried out in a befitting manner and completed within stipulated timeframe for successful conduct of elections to the Legislative Assembly,” reads the letter sent to DEOs by CEO’s office.

The election planner serves as a guide for preparation of different plans and activities to be carried out by the election authorities for holding an election.

On June 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that preparations have begun for holding assembly polls in J&K. “What can be better than the people of J&K electing their representative and tackling their problems through them. That is why preparations for the assembly elections have started. The day is not far when you will elect the new government of J&K with your own vote. The day will come soon when J&K will shape its future as a State once again”, he said—(KNO)

*Apni Party Announces Dissolution of All Kashmir Province Organisations*

Srinagar, Jun 27 (GNS): Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari led Apni Party on Thursday announced dissolution of all Kashmir province frontal organizations with immediate effect.

“It is hereby ordered that all frontal organisations of Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (Kashmir province), including the Youth Wing, Women Wing and ST Wing, are dissolved with immediate effect,” reads an order, a copy of which lies with GNS.

Jammu, Jun 26 (KNO): The Anti-Corruption Bureau Jammu has registered a case against a police officer, serving as deputy superintendent in Jammu and Kashmir police, over disproportionate assets .

In a statement, issued to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said that ACB filed a case against Chanchal Singh, who is serving as deputy superintendent in Jammu & Kashmir Police, for acquiring huge assets disproportionate to his known source of income.

The statement reads that the verification so conducted has revealed that the accused officer during his posting at lucrative posts and indulging in corrupt practices, has accumulated various moveable and immoveable properties in his own name and in the names of his family members and relatives as well as benami properties.

It added that properties include immovable properties comprising of residential houses, plots, shops, business establishment in different Districts of Jammu province and two hotels located in district Kullu (Manali), Himachal Pradesh and also acquired huge bank balances and valuables.

“During course of investigation, after obtaining search warrants from the court, searches were conducted at the residences/offices of the accused as well as family members/relatives including residential houses and business establishments located at different of Jammu province, Srinagar & Manali,” it reads.

It added that during searches, many incriminating documents and valuables were found, which were seized and taken for investigation purposes.

“During the searches conducted in Hotels at Manali (HP), one agreement to sell dated 25th February 2022, executed between one Ved Parkash R/O Shimla and Rekha Devi W/O Chanchal Singh (DySP) was also recovered wherein wife of Chanchal Singh had purchased total land measuring 12-03 hectares (240 kanals approx.) situated at Mohal and Phati Burua Kothi in district Kullu, Manali (H.P) for the total sale consideration of Rs 2.85 crore and out of which she has given Rs 25 lakh through cheques and Rs 25 lakh in cash).”

As per the statement during the search conducted at Hatli, Kathua some documents pertaining to benami properties in the shape of will deed of huge chunk of land were also recovered. “The searches at different locations are still in progress,” it added—(KNO)
