Chitra, Ananaya selected for prestigious Challenger Trophy

JAMMU, Dec 27: For their brilliant display of batting and bowling skills, talented batting all-rounder, Chitra Singh Jamwal and promising leg-spinner Ananaya Sharma have been selected for the prestigious BCCI Senior Women One-Day Challenger Trophy to be played at Chennai from January 5, 2025.

Chitra will represent India-C while Ananaya will be representing India-D in the tournament.

Chitra got the selectors nod for her fabulous show with the willow, scoring 270 runs in the tournament including elegant 65 against strong Madhya Pradesh in the historic quarter-final, while Ananaya got the National Selectors' nod for picking 12 wickets in the tournament including a 5-wicket haul against formidable Himachal Pradesh.

Both these players have done exceptionally well for JKCA in the past also.

RAIPUR, Dec 27: After scoring a splendid century against Jharkhand on the other day, skipper Kanhaiya Wadhawan alongwith opening batter Qazi Junaid scored cracking centuries today before Kawal Preet Singh produced a brilliant stuff with the ball, to guide Jammu and Kashmir to a big win over Goa and qualify for the knockout stage of the ongoing Men's U-23 State-A Trophy at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur today.

Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Jammu and Kashmir scored a massive total of 330/6 in the stipulated 50 overs.

Qazi Junaid and Kanhaiya Wadhawan showed stellar grit and tenacity to notch up power-packed centuries. Kanhaiya scored unbeaten 105 runs off just 64 balls studded with 10 fours and 3 massive sixes, while Junaid scored 106 off 120 balls with 9 fours and 1 six. Musaif Ajaz (23 off 13 balls) and Kawal Preet Singh (16 off 6 balls) were the notable contributors.

Lakhmesh Pawne and Amit Yadav took 2 wickets each for Goa.

Goa in reply scored 258/7 in 50 overs thus losing the match by 72 runs. Yash Kasvankar top scored with unbeaten 100 runs off 96 balls with 9 fours and one six, while Ayush Verlekar (46), Gauresh Bharat (27) and Azan Thota (27) were the other contractors.

Kawal Preet Singh was the pick of the bowlers for J&K, who took 4 wickets by conceding 37 runs in his 10 overs, while Mujtaba Yousuf, Archit Mahajan and Vishal Kumar claimed one wicket each. The team will proceed to Kolkata for knockouts.

JAMMU, Dec 26: Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) felicitated Senior Women's team for its outstanding show in the prestigious One-Day Trophy and sealing the berth in Quater-Finals during a meet and greet event at JKCA Headquarters in Jammu today.

Brig Anil Gupta, Member Administration JKCA and Advocate Sunil Sethi, Member Legal Affairs honoured the team members with certificates in recognition of their marvelous performances.

Speaking on the occasion, the Sub Committee Members (Administrators), Brig Gupta and Advocate Sethi said that it was history in the making, adding that no team across the country would take Jammu and Kashmir lightly in the future.

While appreciating the Head Coach, Ms Latika Kumari Sangwan for being instrumental, the JKCA Administrators said that the Coach guided the players to give their best and made a pride of lioness to roar and demolish rivals.

They also appreciated the Senior Selectors' for picking the best squad and the Support Staff for keeping the atmosphere positive.

Chitra Singh Jamwal achieves rare record

JAMMU, Dec 25: In a rare feat, J&K's talented batting all-rounder, Chitra Singh Jamwal has joined an elite list of players after she scored 31 runs in a Senior Women's One-Day Trophy match against formidable Andhra Pradesh before the historic quarterfinal against Madhya Pradesh on December 23, 2024.

Representing Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Chitra has crossed the 1000-run mark in the 35th innings of her One-Day career, scoring 1097 runs in 36 innings with an average of 39 runs.

Chitra has the honour of scoring three centuries and six half-centuries in the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI's) Domestic One-Day Tournament.

While representing JKCA in the last 14 innings, Chitra has scored 597 runs with an average of 68 runs.

Chitra has the distinction of making debut in the Senior Women's One-Day Trophy at a tender age of 12 years.

Chitra who has the honour of being the first woman cricketer from J&K to score a century at the National scene in the Senior Women's One-Day Trophy, having the cricketing brilliance with 5 magnificent centuries at her back and two in the last season itself, was named in the prestigious Women's Fast Bowling Camp, organised by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) at Benguluru from September 9 to September 14, 2024.

"I accredit my success to the facilities being provided to the players by JKCA at home and the pat and promote attitude of the Administrators and the officials, besides sheer-dint of hardwork by my parents. My job is to deliver my best and wait for the opportunities," maintained Ms Chitra.

JAMMU, Dec 24: Complimenting the organisers and the organisations that play a pivotal role in successful conduct of mega sports events in Jammu and Kashmir, the Secretary to Government, Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Sh Sarmad Hafeez said that Jammu and Kashmir is emerging as a sporting hub and the Government is committed to promote sports in every nook and corner of the Union Territory.

He said this during the Closing Ceremony of 37th Sub Junior National Softball Championship at MA Stadium here today.

He was the Chief Guest on the occasion and declared the games closed. He was accompanied by Sh Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General Youth Services and Sports; Secretary J&K Sports Council, Ms Nuzhat Gul and a galaxy of dignitaries.

Sh Sarmad Hafeez said that J&K Sports Council has organised 16 Nationals during the year, adding that the Department of Youth Services and Sports has hosted historic four National School Games on the trot in Jammu.

Appreciating the participants for showing discipline, sporting spirit and preserving sanctity of sports and games, Sh Sarmad Hafeez termed the athletes as future sporting stars of the nation.

He said that such events apart from helping the youth to showcase their sporting talent, help them not to derail from the mainstream.

Terming the participants as the ambassadors of the nation, Sh Sarmad Hafeez said that sporting extravaganzas like this help the participants to make new friends, exchange culture & language and build camaraderie.

Earlier, getting the better of their rivals in their respective summit clashes, the formidable teams of Madhya Pradesh and Telangana lifted the title trophies, thus winning Gold medals, while Jammu and Kashmir won Silver medal in boys and Bronze medal in girls in the 37th Sub Junior National Softball Championship, organised by Softball Association of Jammu and Kashmir, under the auspices of Softball Association of India and J&K Sports Council.

In the boys section, Madhya Pradesh defeated J&K in the finals by eight homes to six (8-2) to win the title, while Andhra Pradesh claimed the 3rd place.

In the girls category, Telangana drubbed Andhra Pradesh by (5-2). in the finals to win the title, while the third place went to Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, in Baseball-5 boys, Kerala won Gold, Madhya Pradesh Silver and Chhattisgarh claimed Bronze, while in Baseball-5 girls, Jammu and bagged Gold medal, Kerala won Silver and the Bronze medal was bagged by Madhya Pradesh.

On the occasion, the Chief Guest and other dignitaries honoured the medal winning teams with trophies and medals.

He also felicitated technical officials and those who helped in conduct of this mega event in a most befitting manner.

J&K Umar Ashraf, Sharik Majeed to represent India Deaf Team

JAMMU, Dec 23: J&K's Umar Ashraf and Sharik Majeed have been selected to represent the Indian Deaf Cricket Team in T20 International Tri-Series Deaf Cricket to be held in Delhi from March 2 to March 8, 2025.

The Tri-Series will be held between India, Australia and South Africa.

Virender Singh of Himachal Pradesh and Sai Akash of Tamil Nadu will be the Captain and Vice Captain of the team respectively, while Umar Ashraf is the wicketkeeper batter.

JAMMU, Dec 22: Showing extraordinary skill, promise and composure, the Jammu and Kashmir boys won three league matches on the trot to seal berth in the quarterfinals, while girls defeated formidable Maharashtra to enter the last eight stage of the ongoing 3th Sub Junior National Softball Championship, being organised by Softball Association of Jammu and Kashmir, under the auspices of Softball Association of India and J&K Sports Council at MA Stadium, here.

The Championship was declared open by the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Sh Satish Sharma in an impressive opening ceremony yesterday evening, which among others was attended by Director General Youth Services and Sports, Sh Rajinder Singh Tara and Secretary J&K Sports Council, Ms Nuzhat Gul.

In the boys section, Jammu and Kashmir crushed Haryana by sixteen homes to two (16-2) in a one-sided affair; thrashed Jharkhand by twelve homes to nil (12-0) and defeated Chandigarh in an easy contest by nine goals to one (9-1), thus qualifying for the quarterfinals.

In other matches of the boys section, Andhra Pradesh got the better of Chandigarh by a solitary home (1-0), Kerala blanked Bihar (10-0), Chhattisgarh trounced Uttar Pradesh (10-0), Punjab outplayed Gujarat (10-0), Madhya Pradesh drubbed Delhi (10-0), Andhra Pradesh crushed Himachal Pradesh (16-0), Rajasthan prevailed over Maharashtra (11-07), Orissa blanked Uttar Pradesh (11-0), Haryana thrashed Jharkhand (10-0), Chandigarh crushed Himachal Pradesh (12-0) and Chhattisgarh beat Uttar Pradesh (10-0).

RAIPUR, Dec 19: Kawal Preet Singh spun web around the rival batters, while Qazi Junaid sparkled with the willow as Jammu and Kashmir crushed minnows Arunachal Pradesh by 10 wickets in a low scoring match of the ongoing Men's U-23 State-A Trophy at Sector-10 BSP Cricket Stadium, Bhillai today.

Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh bundled out for a paltry total of 63 runs. Nabam K**a (19) and Tik Lee (17) were the only batters to cross double figure mark, while all other batters lacked application and failed to show any resistance.

Kawal Preet Singh was wrecker-in-chief for J&K, who captured 6 wickets by conceding just 9 runs in his 6.5 overs, while Sarvashish Singh bagged 3 wickets by giving away 18 runs in 9 overs. Mujtaba Yousuf also claimed one wicket by conceding just 1 run in his 5 overs including 4 maidens.

In reply, J&K chased the target in just 5 overs, scoring 66 runs without losing any wicket, thus winning the match by 10 wickets.

Qazi Junaid Masood scored 51 runs off just 19 balls, smashing 3 fours and 6 massive sixes, while Arya Thakur contributed 12 runs of 12 balls with one boundary.

J&K so far have two wins against Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh, while Karnataka defeated J&K in another match.

JAMMU, Dec 18: Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K, Sh Rajinder Singh Tara addressed the evaluators and the coordinators and appreciated them for completing the process of Stage-2 'Evaluation of Essays' (Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue) for 28th National Youth Festival 2024-25 in a most befitting manner at Government College for Women (GCW) Parade here today.

Sh Tara said that such programmes help in channelising the energy of youth in the right direction, adding there is a long philosophy behind holding these programmes for holistic development of the youth.

He said the objective of such programmes is to involve every citizen of the country in nation-building activities to see India flourish.

Sh Tara was briefed by Sh Jitendra Mishra, Nodal Officer of the programme that 650 participants were evaluated by 30 evaluators in 2-days process, who had forwarded essays on ten topics including Tech for Viksit Bharat, Vikas Bhi Virasat Bhi, Empowering Youth for Viksit Bharat, Enhancing Productivity in Agriculture, Making India the Startup Capital of the World, Making India -A Sporting and Fit Nation, Making India the Global Manufacturing Powerhouse, Making India Energy Efficient, Building the Infrastructure for the Future and Empowering Women and Improving Social Indicators.

As part of the preparations for the 28th National Youth Festival 2024, the Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) and Government College for Women (GCW) Parade conducted this 2-day event, which was organised under the patronage of Secretary to Government Youth Services and Sports Department, Sh Sarmad Hafeez; Director General Youth Services and Sports, Sh Rajinder Singh Tara and Director Colleges, Dr Sheikh Ajaz Bashir.

Earlier, the programme had begun with the introductory notes by Sh Jitendra Mishra, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports Central and Sh Nitin Hangloo, Officer from NYK, while Principal GCW Parade, Sh Ravinder Tickoo presided over 2-days proceedings and Dr Gurpreet Kaur, NSS Programme Officer GCW Parade acted as the Chief Coordinator of the event.

Yawer Hassan was in sublime touch, who showed stellar grit and tenacity to notch up a cracking century, scoring 112 runs off 113 balls, studded with 10 fours and 3 sixes, while Qazi Junaid Masood contributed 70 runs off 77 balls with 7 boundaries and Arnav Gupta scored power-packed 49 runs off just 27 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Kawal Preet Singh (38) and Kanhaiya Wadhawan (27) were the other major contributors.

Vimal Kumar took 3 wickets and Badal bagged 2 for Odisha.

In reply, Odisha bundled out for paltry 159 runs in 33.5 overs, thus lost the match by a huge margin. Skipper Sawan Pahariya and Badal contributed 41 and 35 runs to the total respectively.

J&K Judokas bag 4 medals in 68th NSG at Ludhiana

*Joint Director YSS felicitates medal winners

JAMMU, Dec 17: Continuing the good show at the national scene in the 68th National School Games (NSG), the Judokas of Jammu and Kashmir bagged four medals with one Silver and three Bronze medals in the event held at Ludhiana.

The medal winners included Mohd Hadi from Srinagar, who clinched Silver; Priksh*t Singh from Reasi (Bronze); Syed Azaan from Srinagar (Bronze) and Nazia Fatima from Srinagar (Bronze). The Judokas were accompanied by Raman Sharma and Asiya as the Coaches.

The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) felicitated the medal winners after their return from Punjab in a simple function at Youth Hostel Nagrota, today.

Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu, Sh Ved Prakash alongwith Accounts Officer Directorate, Sh Sunil Kumar Sharma and District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu, Smt Harvinder Kaur honoured the medal winners with garlands and distribution of sweets.

Secretary to the Government, Youth Services and Sports J&K, Sh Sarmad Hafeez and Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K, Sh Rajinder Singh Tara have congratulated the medal winners for this achievement.

“It is a matter of pride that J&K has won a total of 40 medals in five sports disciplines including Judo, Taekwondo, Fencing, Wushu and Weightlifting with 8 Gold, 13 Silver and 19 Bronze medals so far in 68th National School Games2024-25," informed Sh Ved Prakash.

J&K's Waseem Raja elected Joint Secretary Softball Association of India

INDORE, Dec 17: General Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Softball Association, Sh Waseem Raja Khan was elected as the Joint Secretary of Softball Association of India (SBAI) in a Special General Body Meeting of SBAI to elect the Office Bearers & Members of Managing Committee for fresh four-year term from 2024-2028.

Sh Ramesh Mendola was elected as the President of the Association, while Dr. Pravin Anaokar of Madhya Pradesh was elected as the Secretary General of the Association and Sh Santosh Chauhan of Himachal Pradesh was elected as the Treasurer of the Association.

It is pertinent to mention here that Mr. Khan has been instrumental in reviving the Olympic Sport of Softball in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

"The appointment as Joint Secretary of SBAI has added responsibility on my shoulders and I will leave no stone unturned in promoting the sport of Softball in every nook and corner of the UT. Our Athletes possess immense sporting talent and the only need is to hone the same at the grass-root level, so that they flourish at the National & International scene," said Mr Khan soon after his election.

YS&S, NYK, GCW Parade organise Stage-2 'Evaluation of Essays' for 28th NYF

JAMMU, Dec 17: As part of the preparations for the 28th National Youth Festival 2024, the Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) and Government College for Women (GCW) Parade, organised Stage-2 (Evaluation of Essays) Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue for 28th National Youth Festival 2024-25w at Government College for Women (GCW) Parade here today.

The event is being organised under the patronage of Secretary to Government Youth Services and Sports Department, Sh Sarmad Hafeez; Director General Youth Services and Sports, Sh Rajinder Singh Tara and Director Colleges, Dr Sheikh Ajaz Bashir.

The programme began with the introductory notes by the Nodal Officer, Sh Jitendra Mishra, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports Central and Sh Nitin Hangloo, Officer from NYK, while Principal GCW Parade, Sh Ravinder Tickoo presided over the days proceedings and Ms Gurpreet Ji from GCW Parade acted as the Chief Coordinator.

The Coordinators of the programme drawn from the Department of Youth Services and Sports included Rajesh Dhar, Pankaj Sasan, Dr Vikrant Singh, Pawandeep Kaur, Parveen Kaur, Harvinder Kaur, Jyoti Sharma, Sh Ruhaniat and Ajay Kumar.

Ten topics of the essays included Tech for Viksit Bharat, Vikas Bhi Virasat Bhi, Empowering Youth for Viksit Bharat, Enhancing Productivity in Agriculture, Making India the Startup Capital of the World, Making India -A Sporting and Fit Nation, Making India the Global Manufacturing Powerhouse, Making India Energy Efficient, Building the Infrastructure for the Future and Empowering Women and Improving Social Indicators.

The evaluators included Shahbaz Ahmad, Munisha Devi, Joginder Kumar, Dheeraj Kumar, Moni Mehra, Sanjeev Upadhya, Bharti Slathia, Amit Bhalla, Neelam Kumari, Om Raj Katoch, Neha Bhagat, Meeshu Pandita, Dr BB Sehgal, Dr Sanjay Kotwal, Prof Harpreet Kour, Neenu, Prof Arun Sharma, Dr Rakesh Choudhary, Prof Ramzan Ali, Dr Shivani Sharma, Prof Vijeeta Anand, Dr Monika Bhat, Prof Rakesh Kumar, Dr Neeru Sawhney, Mr Sham Lal, Prof Kusha Sharma, Dr Rakesh Kalotra, Prof Vijay Kumar, Prof Pooja Sharma and Dr Chanchal Angral.
