Music.

Is it a flutter of mystical effervescence?
Or is it a mere molecular chain of disparate frequencies?
Does it emanate from pieces of supernatural entities?
Or does it flow from a muster of mediocre objects?
A startling panacea to escape from the grasp of time,
it is often manipulated by certain intoxicated fools,
to quench their lust for absurd pleasures,
when it endures to illuminate the atrium of creativity.
It is orchestrated to meticulously emulate,
the incessantly swinging emotional spirits of human souls.
It can echo joy, melancholy, regret and anger,
rendering itself to be an affectionate companion, when you happen to have none.
Is it just music?
Or is it the cosmos frisking with us?

I sat the stump alone crying, crying,
The wooden remnant dead of sanguine axe;
I clawed at eyes aggrieved drying, drying,
My freshly streaming tears like flowing wax.
I clenched my fists as though hiding, hiding,
A secret borne of love and hateful spite;
But the leaves lay dead and gliding, gliding
On winds that speeded through the fateful night.
I’d longed to leave the tree spreading, spreading
So slowly ‘gainst the wind that fluttered leaf
And branch thus tasting and dreading, dreading
The children leaving wood to gasps and grief.
And dead and dead are now meeting, meeting
While the leaves rustled their greeting, greeting.

The winter of love, or love in winter?

A lonely austere love has winter brewed
And new the eyes its chilly fingers placed
To freeze upon the beauty newly chused
To gaze at glacial deluge retraced.
My Time has winter stilled, and love reversed
To flow towards the summer-fashioned child;
A bubbling streaming fancy thus rehearsed;
A spirit mingled with the beast of wild.
And then I dreamed amongst the dreams around,
The rusty cauldron clean of elder years,
Which liquor held, alchemy never found
But slowly stirred by love of one endeared.
Love which once a wintry temper jilted;
Love be thou by winds of winter wilted?

Movie Review (31/07/2014): THE LEGEND OF HERCULES

Hercules is no stranger to the big screen. In fact, this is the second film starring the son of Zeus this year. The difference is, this one doesn’t make you want to gouge your eyes out. Directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Hercules is a straightforward sword-and-sandal flick that does exactly what it needs to do. Is it going to blow your mind? No, but it’ll entertain you...

On the surface, Hercules seems like just another retelling of the classic tale, but screenwriters Ryan Condal and Evan Spiliotopoulos have found a new way to spin the story, and it surprisingly works. The legend of Hercules may not be what we actually think it is; but rather a series of embellished stories crafted to elicit fear in all those who dare to oppose him. But the real reason the film works isn’t because of the story or Brett Ratner’s direction; it’s Dwayne Johnson. His performance as Hercules is extremely earnest, and he’s an immensely likable and believable action hero. I even saw traces of Kevin Sorbo, which immediately took me back to my childhood. His physicality is also very imposing; his triceps are literally as big as my thighs. The film rests on his shoulders, and he carries it all the way through.

On a scale of 1 to 10, we would rate it 8 - must watch in 3D!
