Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Avinash Mohanty narrates the dramatic arrest of notorious burglar Battula Prabhakar:
โFor the past two years, we have been tracking Battula Prabhakar. He is no ordinary thiefโhis targets have always been engineering colleges. He knew that these institutions handled cash for admissions, exams, and hostel fees, making them easy prey. He struck multiple engineering colleges across Ranga Reddy and Cyberabad, disappearing without a trace each time.
Recently, in a burglary case in Moinabad, we found his fingerprints. That was our breakthrough. We began tracking his movements through CCTV footage, but he was carefulโalways wearing masks to avoid being identified. Still, we kept following the pattern of his movements, and then we got a tip-off that he was at Prism Pub.
Prabhakar, in his thirties, had grown used to a flamboyant lifestyle. He frequented high-end places, and Prism was one of his regular spots. He had been evading capture for years, but that night, we had his exact geolocation.
We sent a team of three constables, including Head Constable Venkataram Reddy, to the pub. As soon as they confirmed his presence, they moved in.
Prabhakar was drunk. He stepped out of the pub, and the moment he saw the officers, he reacted instinctively. He was carrying two country-made fi****ms hidden in his jacket. Before the officers could get to him, he pulled out one of the weapons and fired. The bullet hit Head Constable Venkataram Reddy in the thigh, exiting from the other side.
Despite the gunfire, our team didnโt back down. The three constables tackled him immediately and overpowered him before he could fire again.
This is the same Prabhakar who escaped in 2022 while being transported from Anakapalle Court to Vizag Central Jail. He has been wanted in dozens of cases across Cyberabad and Hyderabad.
Venkataram Reddy is now stable and receiving treatment at the hospital. Prabhakar is in custody. This is a significant arrestโhe had been a ghost, slipping away time and again, but now his run is over.โ
