With the advent of technology, people now have access to information like never before. Youngsters and students between the age group of 17-22, face an information overload and it is a mammoth task for them to identify what is relevant. Moreover, there is no common platform for students in Hyderabad to share knowledge, portray their talents and collaborate. What happens in a college is hardly know
n to others institutions. So, how do we bridge this gap? The answer comes in the form of STREAM – a free monthly student tabloid targeted at students and youngsters precisely to address the above issues. With the tagline: “Focused Meandering”, it has been launched on July 14th, 2013 and the first issue has already been circulated to major colleges in Hyderabad. A ten member team comprising students, passionate writers, freelancers and corporate employees are the faces behind this publication who strongly believe that “Knowledge should be free” and hence the reason for it being circulated at zero cost. However, the nature of the content or the quality of the publication has not been compromised upon! This is the first and only free publication which is specifically targeted at students with a noble motive. Unlike other journals or magazines out there which cater to only the fun side of things like fashion, parties, latest hangouts in the city etc. (which by the way are essential too), STREAM also addresses topics like career guidance, psychological counseling, language skills and uncommon trivia and it will be ensured that every new edition will be different in some way from the previous one. STREAM also provides an opportunity for students to display their talents through writing, photography, poetry and any other form of arts that would bring out the creative side in them. It has a representative system in each college whereby one excellent student is identified and he/she helps out with the content that flows from his/her college. In short, it’s more of a print wiki where the content is provided by students and thereby edited and moderated by the team at STREAM. The latest college happenings in the city will no more be missed! One unique aspect of this tabloid is that it identifies one student with some extraordinary ability or talent through its representatives every month and runs a cover story on him/her and puts him/her on the cover page. The idea is to recognize talent and to instigate other introvert and shy students to come out and display their abilities thereby providing common platform to show mutual respect, share and collaborate.
