NEWS | People Helping Accident Victims To Get Up To ₹25,000: Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced that the reward for Good Samaritans will be increased to ₹25,000. This is a fivefold increase from the current amount of ₹5,000. The announcement came during a televised discussion on road safety with actor Anupam Kher.

Minister Gadkari emphasized the importance of immediate medical care within the "golden hour" following an accident, which is often critical in saving lives. To incentivize citizens to take swift action, he directed his ministry to revise the reward amount, noting that the current compensation is insufficient to recognize such life-saving efforts.

The initiative to reward Good Samaritans was first introduced in October 2021. As defined by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), a Good Samaritan is a person who, in good faith and without expection of payment, voluntarily provides emergency assistance or care to accident victims.
