It has been diagnosed by my docs as a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack... This sudden, major setback has caught me completely unawares. As I attempt to come to terms with it please keep me in your prayers. For my fans and young colleagues, I would add a word of caution regarding exposure to very loud music and headphones. Rahul Gandhi To Retain Rae Bareli Lok Sabha Seat, Priyanka To Contest Wayanad Bypoll

In a significant reshuffling within the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi has decided to vacate the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala in favor of retaining the family bastion of Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. This decision was announced by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge after a high-level meeting on Monday, June 17.

Rahul Gandhi, who won from both Wayanad and Raebareli, must vacate one seat as per electoral law. "Rahul Gandhi won from two LS seats but as per the law he has to vacate one seat. He will keep the Raebareli seat and vacate the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. We have decided that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will fight elections from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat," Kharge stated.

Expressing his gratitude towards the people of Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi said, "I have an emotional c***ection with Wayanad and Raebareli. I was an MP from Wayanad for the last 5 years. I thank the people for their love and support. Priyanka Gandhi is going to fight the elections and I am confident that she is going to win the elections. I will also periodically visit Wayanad."

In her debut electoral contest, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will now represent Wayanad. "I am very happy to be able to represent Wayanad and I will not let them feel his (Rahul Gandhi's) absence. I will work hard and I will try my best to make everyone happy and be a good representative. I have a very old relationship with Raebareli and Amethi and it cannot be broken. I will also help my brother in Raebareli. We will both be present in Raebareli and Wayanad," she assured.

This strategic move is expected to strengthen the Congress party's hold in both constituencies, with the Gandhi siblings actively participating in their respective regions.

Rare 'flesh-eating bacteria' that can kill in 2 days spreads in Japan

A concerning wave of Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) infections is sweeping through Japan, with reported cases already surpassing previous years' totals. The highly virulent Group A Streptococcus bacteria strain linked to STSS is causing severe symptoms and posing a grave threat to public health.

Experts Warn of Swift Onset and High Fatality Rate

Renowned medical professor Ken Kikuchi underscored the rapid progression and alarming mortality rate of STSS, with fatalities often occurring within 48 hours of symptom onset. The disease's aggressive nature is evident as limb pain and swelling can escalate swiftly, illustrating the urgent need for heightened vigilance.

Global Concerns Rise as Europe Reports Upward Trend

The resurgence of STSS isn't exclusive to Japan, as several European nations have reported spikes in invasive Group A Streptococcus (iGAS) cases. The World Health Organization has been alerted to these concerning developments, underscoring the urgency for coordinated global response efforts.

Preventive Measures Urged Amid Escalating Threat

As cases are projected to surge to 2,500 by year's end, precautionary measures such as meticulous hand hygiene and wound care are being emphasized by health authorities. With a mortality rate nearing 30%, the public is urged to prioritize personal hygiene and promptly seek medical attention for any signs of infection, especially as international travel resumes.

Hong Kong Issues Travel Advisories as Precaution

In response, Hong Kong authorities have issued travel advisories for visitors to Japan, advising stringent adherence to hygiene standards and vigilance towards any wounds to curb the spread of the deadly bacteria. Medical professionals worldwide echo the call for heightened hygiene practices, urging individuals to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their health.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing public health crisis.

Elon Musk's Warning Against EVM Hacking Gains Support from Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi

In response to recent concerns over the vulnerability of electronic voting machines (EVMs) to hacking, tech billionaire Elon Musk has called for the removal of EVMs from the election process. Musk highlighted the risks associated with human and artificial intelligence-driven manipulation of EVMs, emphasizing the need for more secure voting methods.

The call to action by Musk came after reports of voting irregularities in Puerto Rico's primary elections, with Dominion Voting Systems facing scrutiny due to software issues. This has prompted a review of the company's contract in Puerto Rico.

In contrast, India utilizes tamper-proof M3 EVMs designed to enter 'Safety Mode' upon detecting any tampering. Despite this, the Supreme Court of India recently rejected petitions for 100% verification of EVM votes through Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs).

Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi has echoed Musk's concerns, supporting the call for the elimination of EVMs in the wake of heightened hacking risks.

Drone batteries, cash seized from vehicle near Guwahati toll gate

Guwahati,The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police successfully intercepted a vehicle carrying unauthorized drone-related equipment at a toll gate on NH-27 near Guwahati on Friday. Authorities believe the equipment could be intended for disruptive activities by a still-undisclosed banned group from Manipur.

During the operation, the STF team apprehended 27-year-old Khaigoulen Kipgen from Gamngai village in Kangpokpi district, Manipur. Kipgen, who was traveling with two minors, was taken into custody along with various items seized from the vehicle. Among the items were 10 TB30 Intelligent Flight Batteries used in drones, Rs 3,40,000 in cash, four pairs of shoes, and one mobile handset.

Assam Police CPRO Pranab Jyoti Goswami highlighted the significance of the seizure, stating, "The confiscation of these items, particularly the drone batteries, underscores the clandestine efforts by certain banned organizations in Manipur to procure drones for illicit activities."

He further added, "It is a significant breakthrough. The STF Assam had a tip-off, and based on that information, the team successfully intercepted the vehicle this morning at Sonapur toll gate on NH-27. The intelligence suggested that a Manipur-based banned organization was attempting to procure equipment potentially for sabotage activities."

Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the full extent of the intended use of the seized equipment and to uncover more information about the involved banned group.

Fuel prices rise by Rs 3 per litre in Karnataka.
Check new petrol & diesel rates

Bengaluru,The Karnataka government has announced an increase in the cess on petrol and diesel, resulting in a hike in fuel prices across the state. Effective immediately from June 15, the revised sales tax for petrol is now 29.84 percent, up from 25.92 percent, and for diesel is 18.44 percent, up from 14.3 percent.

Following the announcement, petrol prices soared by approximately Rs 3 per litre and diesel by Rs 3.05 per litre. In Bengaluru, this translates to Rs 102.86 per litre for petrol and Rs 88.94 per litre for diesel, compared to the previous Rs 99.84 and Rs 85.93, respectively. The increase comes after the Congress-led government took power in Karnataka, making it the first state to hike fuel prices since the general elections.

The last revision in fuel prices was back in November 2021, when the previous BJP government had provided significant cuts to aid economic recovery post-COVID-19.

This decision by the Finance Department aims to generate additional revenue for the state but is expected to have a ripple effect across various sectors, particularly impacting transportation and goods distribution costs.

Interestingly, this state-level decision follows the Centre's move to reduce the windfall tax on domestically produced crude oil from Rs 5,200 per tonne to Rs 3,250 per tonne. While the Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) on export of diesel, petrol, and jet fuel has been retained at 'nil', the ongoing tax reviews every fortnight ensure continuous adjustments based on average oil prices.

Man's Leg Bandaged with Cardboard Instead of Plaster Cast in Bihar Hospital

In a startling incident in Bihar's Muzaffarpur, a young man named Nitish Kumar, who had injured his leg after a bike accident, was subjected to shocking medical negligence. After being taken to a primary health centre in Minapur, his leg was bandaged with a cardboard carton instead of the medically appropriate plaster cast.

Kumar was later transferred to Shree Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur. His makeshift cardboard bandage remained unchanged and was not replaced with a proper plaster cast, raising serious concerns about the quality of healthcare at the facility.

State Government Directs Schools to Reschedule Examinations During Ambubachi Mela

Guwahati, Assam: In light of the upcoming Ambubachi Mela, the state government has instructed all schools in the Kamrup Metro district to avoid scheduling any examinations from June 22 to June 26, 2024. The directive was communicated via a formal letter from the Inspector of Schools addressed to the authorities of all schools within the district.

The letter states, "Schools are requested not to schedule any examination during 22nd June to 26th June, 2024 on account of Ambubachi Mela." The missive further advised that "if any schools have already scheduled examinations on the above-mentioned dates, they are hereby asked to re-schedule the examination."

This directive is based on instructions from the District Commissioner and aims to alleviate any potential inconvenience for students due to the anticipated large influx of devotees into Guwahati during this period. The Ambubachi Mela, which will commence on June 22 at the renowned Kamakhya Temple, is a significant event on Assam's cultural calendar, drawing millions of devotees from across the nation.

The state government’s decision underscores the importance of the festival and the expected challenges it poses in terms of crowd management and transportation. Schools are thus urged to cooperate fully with the new directives to ensure a smooth experience for all stakeholders involved.

Previously, examinations scheduled during such large-scale events have led to logistical challenges, including transportation issues and decreased student attendance. By proactively rescheduling exams, the government aims to preempt these problems and ensure that students' academic schedules are not disrupted.
