India Gate is a triumphal arch in New Delhi, India that commemorates Indian soldiers who died in World War I and the Afghan War:
Construction
The British Empire built India Gate in 1921, and it was originally known as the All-India War Memorial.
Architecture
The arch is 42 meters tall and 9.1 meters wide, and is made of red and yellow sandstone from Bharatpur. It's similar in style to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
Inscriptions
The arch has the words "Amar Jawan" (Immortal Soldier) on both sides. The names of over 13,000 soldiers are inscribed on the walls.

At the base of India Gate is a marble pedestal with a cenotaph and a reversed rifle on top. The cenotaph is surrounded by flames that burn continuously.
