Arteta gave you guys your favorite midfield trio and we still dropped points. Today’s loss has nothing to do with Arteta, it’s your favorites!

Teta sometimes deliberately gives the fans what they want just to expose their folly 😂

Odegard, Partey, Rice is our best midfield. Nothing anyone will tell me. Merino is not good enough for premier league. Not getting a striker will hurt us this season. Havertz is already tired and running out of ideas

Man City discussing shock Pogba push

The Independent says City are actively discussing a move for the former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder.

After seeing his four-year doping ban cut to 18 months on appeal, Pogba can play again in March.

The France international is available after having his contract with Juve terminated by mutual consent last month.

City are now exploring the prospect of bringing Pogba back to Manchester, though for the moment, he is reluctant to consider the move given his United background.

Arsenal receive injury boost as Gabriel Magalhaes returns to training

Arsenal have received a boost on the fitness front, with Gabriel Magalhaes having returned to training ahead of Saturday's game at home to Everton.

The centre-back hasn't played since November 30 but is expected to be available against the Toffees.

Arteta's hand in the transfer market could be forced with Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu all currently sidelined.

Jurrien Timber was only fit enough for the bench in Arsenal's 3-0 win against Monaco in the Champions League.

Teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly, 18, was handed a full Champions League debut at the Emirates and is in line to secure his first Premier League start.

Arteta added: 'He certainly deserves to be in contention to be selected because he performed and competed really well. At his age to show that maturity and personality is strange. Off the pitch, it is the same.

'He's a person that continuously surprises all the staff with the kind of questions that he's capable of asking. That tells you that Myles is a really bright boy.

'He was surrounded by very senior players, very experienced players. We believed it was the right context where he could help the team to win the game and he certainly did that.'

Arteta has insisted Arsenal's search for a new sporting director will have no impact on their transfer business and claimed Edu's permanent successor could come from inside the club.

Arsenal are on the look-out for Edu's replacement following the Brazilian's sudden resignation last month.

Jason Ayto - who has been at Arsenal for a decade, first as a scout, before working his way up the ladder to become Edu's right-hand man - has assumed the post on an interim basis.

But Dan Ashworth's shock exit from Manchester United has seen him linked with a move to north London ahead of the transfer window opening in just 19 days.

Speaking prior to his side's Premier League clash against Everton at the Emirates on Saturday, Arteta was asked if not having a permanent sporting director in place could pose a problem for the club's transfer dealings.

'We have one,' he replied. 'Jason Ayto is our interim sporting director. He has got the full capacity and support of the football club right now. He is doing really well with his team. The process is open, as you know. And the club, with the support of all of us, will decide who is the best person to move us forward.

'I never expect January to be super busy, but we have to wait and see where we are. There might be some opportunities, too. Hopefully the availability of the squad will be better in a few weeks. We have to wait and see.'

Asked if he would like the situation resolved before the end of the season, Arteta continued: 'Yes, but when we are convinced that we have the right person who can work the right team who are doing a great job at the moment.

'(It needs to be) someone who is going to take us to the next level. We might have him internally. Timing wise it's hard to understand. I'm not running the process so it's more for the club to respond.'

Sean Dyche prepares to get one over Mikel Arteta in the set piece derby

Everton's set piece derby against Arsenal on Saturday has been years in the making for manager Sean Dyche, who recounts using primitive technology to find marginal gains as a youth coach at Watford.

Nobody has scored more goals from corners and free-kicks than Saturday's combatants at the Emirates but Dyche insists studying how to maximise set plays is nothing new.

'People have been analysing set pieces for years and years,' he revealed. 'I first remember doing it as a youth team manager in 2007 when you'd need two different screens.

'It was called Final Cut Pro. You'd sit there laboriously learning how to do it, transferring information from one screen to the other; lifting it, dragging it, dropping it, stop-in, timelining. It was a pain in the arse!

'Then coding comes in on a laptop, you can buy it right off the shelf and boom.'

The Merseysiders score half their goals under Dyche from set plays and are the one team as intimidating to stop as Arsenal with James Tarkowski mentioned alongside Gunners' Gabriel as the biggest aerial threats in the Premier League.

'We probably lay down the foundations for our at set plays at Everton in pre-season,' added Dyche.

'Maybe Arsenal have a psychological advantage because they're so good at them, but we've found that as well.

'Virtually all teams mention them as a threat when they play us. That brings its own psychology!'

Arsenal have scored seven times from Premier League set pieces this season and Everton six, accounting for nearly half their total number of goals.

These days Dyche hands over responsibility to coaches Steve Stone and Ian Woan, and a team of analysts but admits it still depends on having players eager to win headers.

'Delivery and attacking the ball will never go out,' he said.

'Brian Clough was talking about that in 1987 when I first went to Nottingham Forest. 'Put the ball in the box and someone has got to go in and attack it.'

'Over time, delivery improves, movement improves, the physical power of players improves and their jump capability improves. But that one thing you need; just the sheer will and desire to score a goal.'

Dyche says his side prepare against every team, not just Arsenal who have specialist coaches and are known as the best in the country.

The Everton boss, who should have fit-again striker Armando Broja in his squad, doesn't consider Mikel Arteta's title challengers as a one-trick pony though.

'Just because they strong statistics on set pieces, I haven't forgotten their other threats. They can still open you up and have some very good players,' he said.

'I certainly don't think they are set play team. They are just a team that can add that in, and they have done that.'

Arsenal transfer news: Arteta misses out on two deals as target told to push

Arsenal are seemingly back on track ahead of the frenetic festive fixture schedule and the January transfer window.

The Gunners have aspirations of finally ending their 20-plus year wait for the Premier League title and, for once, Manchester City seem beatable. But they trail Arne Slot's Liverpool at the summit heading into the Christmas fixtures.

It remains to be seen if Mikel Arteta and co will be seeking any major reinforcements in January. They should, theoretically, have the funds required to land another striker after keeping their powder dry in the summer, but the Arsenal hierarchy could decide to wait until the end of the season given how notoriously difficult the January window is known to be.

With the transfer window now just weeks away, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest transfer news and gossip from The Emirates...

Arteta beaten to wonderkid
Manchester United have beaten Arsenal to two transfer targets after striking deals for Emmanuel Ziro and Diego Lyon.

Ziro confirmed earlier this week that he had signed with United despite interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, as outlined by The Evening Standard.

And the Gunners are also said to have been interested in Lyon, who is poised to join United from Cerro Porteno. The left-back, 18, will join officially for a €8million (£6.3m) fee in the coming days.

Gunners target told to move
Glen Johnson reckons Arsenal transfer target Xavi Simons would flourish in the Premier League if he were to make the switch from Paris Saint-Germain.

"For his size, he’s quite physical and he’s very good technically, so I believe he’s the type of player that would thrive in the Premier League," Johnson told Betfred of Simons, who has been linked with Arsenal on numerous occasions.

"He’s playing at the top level, for a good team and we always say it’s risky signing a player that’s never played in the Premier League, but with a player like him, I don’t think it’s risky at all.

"£66 million’s not too bad for a player that’s going to be knocking on the door for a starting place in the team."

Arteta drops transfer hint
Mikel Arteta has left the door open for Arsenal to add to their squad in the upcoming transfer window.

The Gunners boss was quizzed about potential business in his pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal's meeting with Everton this weekend.

And while he stressed that he wasn't expecting January to be particularly busy, he teased: "I never expect January to be super busy but some surprises always come. Hopefully the availability of the squad is going to be better in recent weeks."

Arne Slot fires major Liverpool warning that's bad news for Arsenal and Chelsea

Liverpool are top of the Premier League, top of the Champions League and yet Arne Slot is thinking about the improvements to come.

There’s little concern that the Dutchman is resting on his laurels after a sensational start to life on Merseyside. Nor will his players be allowed to. Liverpool are four points clear in the Premier League and on their way to the last-16 of the European Cup.

They’ve got a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Southampton next month, too. Mo Salah has been one of the driving forces this season. He’s scored 16 goals - 13 in the league - and provided 12 assists.

Virgil van Dijk has been brilliant at the back, Ryan Gravenberch a revelation in midfield as a No.6 and the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones thriving. But there’s more to come from someone like Dominik Szoboszlai while Harvey Elliott is back fit and among the squad, as well as Diogo Jota and we still haven’t seen what Federico Chiesa will bring.

“We're not flying but we are doing well.” said Slot as yet again he tempered excitement around their stunning start. “I think there is more to come from the players into the team than we have showed until now. But I think that is something every manager feels. The longer you work with a team the more the better you start to play and the more they are used to playing together.

“But that is not only for us that is probably the same for a couple of other teams as well that there is more to come from them as well. We truly believe that we can... OK there are a few that maybe it is not so easy to get more out of them individually - but as a team we can do better and there is is definitely more to come from a few individuals, also because of their age.

“And that is the positive thing about the squad I inherited, most of them are still quite young and the best years normally are still to come."

With players returning to fitness, it will be also about managing minutes for Slot - whose side face Fulham on Saturday - in a busy schedule of games.

“Although these players have done really well and sometimes that is the challenge we have now that if all the players are available they also still have to accept their roles,” he said. “And that is something we talk about a lot with the players. But I have no complaints at all about that up till now.

“So everyone is very positive trying to get the best out of the team but the more players available the more difficult choices there are.

"But in a season where it has been Harvey, it has been Alisson, it has been Jota [injured] so hopefully they are all available now for the rest of the season but probably that [a fully fit squad] is never going to happen so that is why we need players like Harvey and Wataru [Endo], all these players, for the second half of the season because there will become a moment when we are definitely going to need them."

🔵 Pep Guardiola on signings in January: “What I want is my players back! I will love desperately to compete with the squad that we had at the beginning of the season”.

“I always said I want THESE players, not new ones. But in the certain moment, the right moment, we will see”.

Man City STARTING XI in recent games;

Ederson
Walker
Dias
Gvardiol
Rico Lewis
Gundogan
Kevin Debruyne
Bernardo Silva
Doku
Haaland
Savinho

SUBS: Ortega, Grealish, Foden, Akanji, Ake, Stones.

The only player out is Rodri who isn’t playing any more game(s) for the rest of the season.

So, which players is Pep talking about? The bald man should come to terms with reality that he’s been found out and that it’s time to go!

Ian Wright: Saka is world class

I believe my Legend😎🤙

Rio is just jealous because Saka is now far from his past performance and the current man united player's performance, SAKA.

Some world class player can't do what Saka does for Arsenal. He's a star boy

Rio, Neville, etc. will always hat on Arsenal. Saka is more than world-class. Name a player?
