20th Elite Youth Men’s and Women’s Sikkim State Boxing Championship 2024 Concludes
The 20th Elite Youth Men’s and Women’s Sikkim State Boxing Championship 2024 concluded successfully on its third and final day. Organized by the Namchi District Boxing Association (NDBA) in collaboration with the Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association (SABA), the championship showcased remarkable talent and enthusiasm from participants across the state.
The closing ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Raj Kumari Thapa, Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, as the Chief Guest. Other notable attendees included Satish Chandra Rai, Chief Patron (NDBA) and MLA of the 11th Namchi-Singithang area; Jas Lal Pradhan, SABA President and Arjuna Awardee; Sandhya Gurung, Dronacharya Awardee and Chief Coach; MD (SBS) P Wangdi Bhutia, DC Namchi Anupa Tamling, SDM Namchi, government contractors, and other distinguished guests.
The event began with a group song and a western dance performance, adding a festive charm to the occasion. Before the matches commenced, Chief Patron Satish Chandra Rai delivered a motivational address, commending the athletes and highlighting the unwavering support of Chief Minister P.S. Golay for the development of boxing in Sikkim.
In her address, Chief Guest Raj Kumari Thapa lauded the efforts of the NDBA and praised the athletes for their dedication. She encouraged young boxers to take inspiration from local legends like Sandhya Gurung and Jas Lal Pradhan, whose achievements have put Sikkim on the national sporting map. She concluded by wishing success to all athletes and organizers involved in the championship.
The event culminated with a prize distribution ceremony, where outstanding performers were honored by the dignitaries. The championship ended on a high note, leaving a lasting impression of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and the vibrant spirit of Sikkim’s boxing community.
The free ride provided by the United Christian Welfare Society of Sikkim, Gangtok District, and the Christian Drivers Welfare Society of Sikkim concludes.
An organization held a felicitation event for all of the drivers who made the ride possible. The president of the organisation extended his deepest appreciation to the entire driver association for its assistance.
All drivers are presented with a certificate of appreciation.
Sunil Kami and Damber Singh Tirwa from the same association, who were recently appointed to DSP and Account Officer respectively, were additionally honored with certificates of appreciation.

The United Christian Welfare Society of Sikkim (Gangtok District) and the Christian Drivers Welfare Society of Sikkim organized a one-day free ride for the public with the theme “Spreading Joy and Happiness” on the eve of Christmas 2024.
A total of 29 vehicles participated in this noble initiative. Ps. Rinko Tenzing Lepcha, President of UCWSS, and Suman Singh, President of UCWDS, provided a briefing to the FFS regarding the ride.

The finals for both the men’s and women’s categories were officiated by Chief Guest N.B Dahal. The auditorium came alive with cheers as the matches unfolded.
