Notification regarding Counting of Votes on 2nd & 4th June 2024, at the Counting Centre
Government B. Ed. College Soreng, the 100-meter periphery of Government B. Ed. College, Soreng has been identified as a sanitized zone hence, in order to prevent the entry of unauthorized persons inside the counting premises and for maintenance of law and order during counting process for ensuring peaceful conduct of counting in the district, the following venues have been identified for the gathering of supporters of various political parties on 2nd & 4th June 2024 in the district as under:

65th BRO Day Celebrations: 758 BRTF and Project Swastik Receives Prestigious Awards

The 65th Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Day marked a historic moment as the 758 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF), under Project Swastik, was honored with the esteemed title of the best Task Force in the nation. This distinguished accolade was presented by Shri Giridhar Aramane, Defence Secretary, recognizing the exceptional achievements of the unit.

The recognition stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts demonstrated by the personnel of 758 BRTF, under Project Swastik, especially during the catastrophic flash floods that devastated Sikkim on October 3rd and 4th, 2023. Despite facing immense challenges, the BRO personnel exhibited unmatched skills and a steadfast commitment to nation-building.

Notably, Chief Engineer, Project Swastik, led commendable rescue operations and swift infrastructure restoration efforts in North Sikkim, earning him the prestigious Strategic Contributions Award under Operation Teesta, presented by the Defence Secretary during the ceremony. Commenting on this remarkable achievement, Shri Giridhar Aramane expressed profound gratitude to the entire team of project Swastik for their exemplary service and resilience. He emphasized that these honours are a testament to the relentless pursuit of excellence and the strong sense of camaraderie within the Swastik family.

The award not only celebrates the outstanding performance of the 758 BRTF and Project Swastik, but also underscores the crucial role played by the Border Roads Organisation in ensuring connectivity and resilience in challenging terrains across the country. What once seemed nearly impossible was made achievable through the meticulous planning by Project Swastik and 758 BRTF officials and the dedicated efforts of the Road Construction Companies (RCC), Casually Paid Labours (CPL), and other relevant teams.

National Highway 10 Closure: Urgent Call for Improved Road Connectivity to Sikkim. The upcoming MP must prioritise the upgrading of NATIONAL HIGHWAY 10

Sikkim, India – May 8, 2024 – Road connectivity is the lifeline for the development and prosperity of any region, and the recent closure of National Highway 10 has once again highlighted the critical need for improved infrastructure in the state of Sikkim.

For three consecutive days, the only road linking Sikkim with the rest of the country has been closed, causing significant disruptions to transportation and hindering the movement of goods and people. This closure underscores the longstanding challenges faced by the region due to inadequate road connectivity.

Despite Sikkim being an integral part of the Indian Union for nearly five decades, the state continues to grapple with substandard road infrastructure, particularly along National Highway 10. The failure to address this issue not only impedes economic growth but also jeopardizes the safety and well-being of the residents.

As road connectivity falls under the purview of the Union government, it is imperative that our elected representatives prioritize the rehabilitation and enhancement of National Highway 10. The forthcoming Members of Parliament must recognize the urgency of this matter and commit to addressing it as a top priority.

Improving the condition of National Highway 10 is not merely a matter of convenience but a fundamental necessity for the socio-economic development of Sikkim. It is incumbent upon the government to allocate the necessary resources and expedite measures to ensure that the road infrastructure meets the needs of the region.

The people of Sikkim deserve reliable and safe road connectivity that facilitates seamless movement and enables the state to fully harness its potential for progress. It is time for concerted action to transform National Highway 10 into a road worthy of the aspirations and aspirations of the people of Sikkim.

FRAUD CALLS: Please Make Your Parents Aware

"Respected admin,
This is to bring to your attention an attempted fraud/scam whatsapp call received today (27th April 2024), at around 12.30 pm on my father's phone number.

The caller who claimed himself as an officer in charge, claimed that I had been arrested by the police for allegedly supplying drugs. The call was intended to demand a sum of money in exchange for dismissing the case and releasing me from custody.

I would like to clarify that I have not been involved in any criminal activities and this call appears to be a fraudulent attempt to extort money from us. My father did not entertain the caller's demands and immediately terminated the call. However, considering the seriousness of the matter and the potential harm it may cause to others, who may fall victim to such scams, I would like to spread awareness via your page to prevent similar incidents in future."

Five killed, several injured as heavy rains & landslides hit J&K

Five people were killed and several others were injured after torrential rain triggered landslides and flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir.

Several homes have also been damaged. As per latest updates, the water level has started to recede in Kupwara.

Earlier, around 336 families were evacuated from the region and University of Kashmir postponed all exams scheduled for Tuesday.

Tea from Nepal won the title of the ‘World’s Best Tea’ at the World Tea Expo 2024 held in Las Vegas, USA.

Siddha Devi Tea Estate, located in Ilam, eastern Nepal, earned this honour for its product displayed at the trade expo last month. The company won awards in four categories, including ‘Grand Champion,’ ‘Best Liquor,’ and ‘Best White Tea.

गान्तोक,29 अप्रेल। चिया कविता,सिक्किमले प्रत्येक वर्ष विश्व चिया दिवसको अवसर पारेर साहित्यिक क्षेत्रमा योगदान दिँदै आएका एकजना व्यक्तित्वलाई चिया कविता पुरस्कार प्रदान गर्ने निर्णय गरेको थियो भने प्रथम चिया कविता पुरस्कारले डुप छिरिङ लेप्चालाई पुरस्कृत गरेको थियो। यस वर्ष पनि यसै परम्परालाई निरन्तरता दिँदै आसाङथाङ नाम्ची निवासी प्रभा राईलाई चिया कविता पुरस्कार 2024 ले पुरस्कृत गर्ने निर्णय गरेको छ। सोमबार गान्तोकमा बसेको चिया कविता समुहका कार्यकारी सदस्यहरूको बैठकले उक्त निर्णय लिएको हो।
