Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, on Friday said the state assembly election is just a few months away but they (legislators/ political parties) have decided not to start campaigning, and instead work for settlement of the Naga political issue first.

Rio was addressing the gathering during the inauguration of a multi-purpose hall at Zunheboto, according to an update from DPRO and IA Zunheboto.

While maintaining that they are giving priority to the Naga issue than the upcoming state assembly polls due next year, he said there are people who work and also those who only criticise others.

The chief minister reiterated that the government of India has accepted the uniqueness of the Nagas and the traditions of the Nagas were left untouched even during the British rule.

He urged the people to do away with individualism, villagism and tribalism, and come together as Nagas.

He also said that Zunheboto was known as the “Land of warriors” but the head hunting time had gone with the arrival of Christianity and civilization. He urged the people of Zunheboto to be the ‘warriors of peace’.

He went on to say that might is no more right today but “right is might”.

The chief minister also took to Twitter to congratulate the people of Zunheboto on the inauguration of Multipurpose Hall Zunheboto. “It is a testimony of unity among the people and funds being properly utilised. I hope the new facility will be taken care of and used well for the common good,” he wrote.

Minister for Agriculture, G Kaito Aye, also called upon the people of Zunheboto to come together to address the Naga political issues, while saying the legislators had joined hands for early settlement of the issue.

Speaking on the occasion, Advisor for School Education, KT Sukhalu informed that INR 2 crore was initially allotted (for Zunheboto multi-purpose hall), out of which INR 60 lakh was spent on land (acquisition) and INR 60 lakh more was allotted.

He added that due to lack of fund, he approached the chief minister for INR 1 crore more, which was granted and because of which the project was materialised within the stipulated time.

Maintaining that the purchase of land for a cemetery, a longstanding need for the people of the town, has been sanctioned, he asked the chief minister to handover the cheque to the president of Sumi Hoho.

For this, he appealed to the citizens of Zunheboto to set up a committee to plan the burial in an orderly manner and sought co-operation from the churches.

Sukhalu further urged Rio “if special attention could be given for the circuit house building if they get the chance to run the government (again)”.

President of Sumi Hoho, Nikheto Jimomi, in his welcome address lauded Chief Minister Rio for his initiatives in Zunheboto district, highlighting the funds and projects sanctioned during his leadership.

He said that the purchase of land for Supply Godown at INR 70 lakh; land compensation at Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu amounting to INR 2.78 crore; Zunheboto town graveyard costing INR 66.78 lakh; land extension for Zunheboto Government College costing INR 25 lakh; and a multi-purpose hall costing INR 60 lakh, besides other development projects were done under Rio’s leadership.

The Sumi Hoho president also urged the government to introduce degree courses at the Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu at the earliest time, from next academic session if possible, mentioning that the institute was established about 50 years ago.

The President of NDPP, Zunheboto region, and member of the multi-propose hall construction committee, said while presenting the project report that the Sumi Hoho requested the chief minister during Ahuna Festival 2018 to construct a hall as Zunheboto town didn’t have such a facility. He said that the project has become a reality while lauding legislator Sukhalu and the district officials for their unceasing participation.

He went on to inform that the building was constructed under the Tribal Affairs department with an amount of INR 3 crore and the land was acquired from the Sumi Baptist Church Zunheboto.

Earlier in the programme, the chief minister unveiled the monolith of the multi-purpose hall.

Hindi teachers in Nagaland not qualified; Centre refuses to pay salaries

, Feb. 18 (EMN) Just days after the All Nagaland Hindi Teachers' Union, Mon Unit, Expressed dismay over non-payment of salaries for three months, Advisor of School Education K Tokugha Sukhalu on Friday clarified that the government of India had refused to release the fund as many Hindi teachers in the state don't meet the required eligibility.

Sukhalu said this at a programme in Toluvi village over upgrading of Government Middle School to Government High School.

He said that the state had randomly appointed many teachers when thousands of Hindi teachers were sanctioned by the government of India, but now, as per the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) norm, only class 12th pass with a Hindi diploma are eligible for undergraduate Hindi teacher’s post ,but unfortunately, "most of our teachers are 10th pass, so the government of India refused to pay the salaries", he stated.

He said that the state government is taking up the issue with the Finance department to release the fund from the state exchequer (not from the government of India), but "the finance department has clearly mentioned to ensure that Hindi teacher pass class 12 either from National Institute of Open Schooling or other schools and have a diploma in Hindi, and only then we will release the salaries".

The advisor informed that the state government will soon advertise for recruitment of Hindi teachers for those who have passed class 12 and have a diploma in Hindi, and "once this is done, the issue about the Hindi teacher can be taken care of".

| North Korea has banned its citizens from laughing, shopping, and drinking from Friday onwards as a part of 11-day mourning on the 10th anniversary of former leader Kim Jong-il from today, 17 December.

Kim Jong Il passed away due to a heart attack on 17 December, 2011. To pay respect at the memorial of the leader a 10-day mourning period is observed every year after his death.

Due to the 10th anniversary of the death of former Supreme Leader Kim Jong Il the mourning period has been extended to 11 days.

A resident of North Korea was quoted saying to Radio Free Asia. “Even if your family member dies during the mourning period, you are not allowed to cry out loud and the body must be taken out after it’s over. People cannot even celebrate their own birthdays if they fall within the mourning period,”

The resident further asserted that in the past there have been many people who were caught drinking during the mourning period. They were immediately arrested and treated as ideological criminals; the unnamed resident claimed. He also added that after being arrested the people are taken away and never seen again.

The Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) has once again opposed the shifting of Dimapur’s DC office to the new complex at Chumukedima.

In its Emergency Executive Meeting held today, the Forum resolved to reaffirm its earlier memorandum to the State Government dated (25/08/2014 and 05/06/2015) and representation dated 6/04/21, opposing the shifting of the DC Office Dimapur to the New Complex at Chumukedima.
In the event of any move or development to shift the present Dimapur Deputy Commissioners’ Office to Chumukedima, the citizens of Dimapur would not be silent spectator and would oppose democratically, it resolved.

DDCF appealed to the Government of Nagaland to listen to the voice of the masses as in a democratic country adding the Government is formed by the people and is for the people.
The DDCF also appreciated the appointment of a new ADC in the new DC Complex, stating that this is a sign of development and growth of the district and will largely relieve the burden of the people in the Chumukedima Circle of Dimapur district.
While appreciating the Government for appointing an Additional Deputy Commissioner in Dimapur, the DDCF urged the Government to pave ways for the conversion of non-cadastral land into cadastral survey land, especially the town/municipal areas so that that it will be free for development in the near future.

DDCF further appealed to the Government of Nagaland that the inter-district boundary issue between Peren and Dimapur be dealt with sensitively without any bias.
It said all stakeholders (affected villages/CSOs, administration) should be taken on board while settling the dispute with a permanent settlement.
