*NSCN (I-M) slams Imkong Imchen’s statement*

Source: Np
October 28, 2023

Reacting to the recent statement by advisor for Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation, Imkong L Imchen that negotiators wanted to prolong Naga political settlement, the NSCN (I-M) alleged that political opportunists like Imchen who had recently joined the BJP for personal benefits, was now spitting venom against NSCN negotiators.

In a statement, NSCN (I-M) while clarifying that it was not against BJP or any other political party, said a time might come when Imchen would discard the party once strong winds started blowing against the BJP.
NSCN (I-M) stated that there were certain people in the Naga political circle who took capricious delight to expose their chameleon-like character bereft of any principles that matched the political exigency of the Naga political issue which was hanging fire for many years.

Terming the “divisive politics” of Imchen as poisonous, the group asserted that it would march ahead undeterred by unethical critics like him.

Jacob Zhimomi:

Government Higher Secondary School Diphupar (A) is like the crown jewel among government educational institutions of Nagaland. It has set an outstanding example of resilience, persistence and success over the past 50 years. It has set the bar high for the rest.

As GHSS Diphupar (A) celebrates its Goden Jubilee today, I'm glad to unveil the Golden Jubilee Monolith and also release the souvenir for the same. It is a grand milestone which only a few can boast to have achieved.

I am glad to be among the people on this red-letter day.

I also pay humble tributes to the school pioneers who persevered and toiled hard despite the mountains of obstacles they had to encounter. The school is a living testimony of their commitment and sacrifice towards betterment of the future.

May God bless them all!

Manipur's Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has confirmed the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the state and has declared the Pig Farm of the Central Agriculture University (CAU) in Imphal West District as 'epicentre' of the contagious disease

Officials said Deputy Commissioner of the Imphal West district and Director, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has jointly issued orders prohibiting movement and transportation of pig from the place where they were kept within the restricted area.

The outbreak of ASF came to light after pig farmers bodies in Manipur reported deaths of pigs at various farms in the valley districts including Imphal West, Imphal East and Kakching.

Farmers reported pig deaths with symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, starvation, and death within a week.

Following a surge of deaths, the state Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department had collected samples from affected piggeries for confirming if there is any outbreak of a disease in the state and sent the samples to the referral laboratory for northeastern states, the North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (NERDDL) in Guwahati.

Officials said that the department confirmed the ASF outbreak based on the laboratory report.

The joint team of security forces successfully apprehended one active cadre and one over ground worker of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN (IM)] group in the Longding district.

The operation, based on credible intelligence, was carried out by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles in cooperation with the Longding police. Acting on actionable intelligence, they launched an operation in the border village of Chop, where they successfully apprehended the two individuals linked to the proscribed NSCN (IM) group.

The apprehended cadre has been identified as Self-Styled Lance Corporal Namleuku Zeme, a resident of Mpai in Peren, Nagaland. The over ground worker is identified as Langang Gangsa from Ranapio in Chop village, Arunachal Pradesh.

The apprehension of a hardcore militant and an over ground worker is being celebrated as a major success for the security forces in the region. The NSCN (IM) has been a cause of concern, as it has been attempting to carry out operations against the people in the TCL region from across the international border.

*Nagaland student ragged at NEHU hostel in Tura*

October 13, 2023 2:05 pm

In an apparent case of ragging, a student from Nagaland has been harassed by senior students in the hostel at the Tura campus of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Meghalaya.

According to reports, the student who has got admitted to NEHU for pursuing masters in Agri Business Management was abused by his senior student on October 8.

The incident happened the day when he first came to the hostel.

According to reports, senior students approached his dorm room in Arabella Hostel, and then forcibly took him to an empty room. To conceal their identities, the seniors flashed lights at his face.

The student was then asked to introduce himself in Hindi. Dissatisfied with his proficiency, they demanded that he “entertain” them by performing a “naked dance” due to his Naga ethnicity.

As he pleaded for mercy, the victim was threatened and coerced into stripping in front of his tormentors. The victim said that the perpetrators may have recorded a video of the incident on their phones as well.

In the aftermath of this horrifying incident, the victim promptly left the hostel and returned to his home in Nagaland, where he lodged a formal complaint regarding the matter.

The Naga Students’ Union (NSU) has written to NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, urging immediate action and justice for the student.

The NSU warned that if the university authorities failed to take swift and decisive action, they would call for strikes and boycotts against NEHU.

ManipurViolence | “Will ensure justice for both Meiteis and Kukis” : CM Biren on violence

Chief Minister N Biren Singh said on Friday that the government will "ensure justice" for both the Kuki and Meitei communities, who have been engaged in an ethnic clash in the state since May.

Speaking to India Today TV, the Chief Minister also refuted the allegation of slow progress in the probe into the case where Kukis are victims.

"When the two girls were paraded naked, villagers immediately came out, and the local police acted. Justice is being given to both communities," the BJP Chief Minister said.

He further stated that normalcy is being restored in the State with the support of the masses.

"We have initiated various social activities over the past month. Starting today, we have reopened schools and colleges. Markets and offices have also been opened. I expect things to cool down soon," the Chief Minister said.

He also highlighted that Churachandpur, which was the epicentre of the violence, is also returning to normalcy. The roads and highways are open in Kangpokpi as well, the Chief Minister added.

"You came and saw; I urge those who say Manipur is still burning to come down and see for themselves," Biren said.

Commenting on the investigation by central agencies, he said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are "doing their job."

However, he added, "We appreciate the central government's support, but we expect more."

All schools in the state --government,
government-aided, or private-- reopened on Friday. The schools were closed on September 27 after a fresh bout of protests erupted.

Mention may be made that in the past 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing, arson and congregation of protestors.

A combined team of Manipur Police and Central Security Forces conducted search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts.

A total of 134 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of the State, both in the hill and the valley and police also detained 1665 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State.

Police have appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and to be aware of false videos.
