Allah's statement,

وَمَا تَسْقُطُ مِن وَرَقَةٍ إِلاَّ يَعْلَمُهَا

not a leaf falls, but He knows it.

means, He knows the movements of everything including inanimate things. Therefore, what about His knowledge of the living creatures, especially, those whom the Divine laws have been imposed upon such as mankind and the Jinns.

In another Ayah, Allah said;

يَعْلَمُ خَأيِنَةَ الاٌّعْيُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِى الصُّدُورُ

Allah knows the fraud of the eyes, and all that the breasts conceal. (40;19)

وَلَا حَبَّةٍ فِي ظُلُمَاتِ الَارْضِ وَلَا رَطْبٍ وَلَا يَابِسٍ إِلاَّ فِي كِتَابٍ مُّبِينٍ

There is not a grain in the darkness of the earth nor anything fresh or dry, but is written in a Clear Record.

Islam teaches us that helping and showing kindness to others actually makes us feel better about whatever difficulty we are going through ourselves, and ultimately brings us closer to Allah (SWT). Our beloved prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:

“Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter. Whoever alleviates [the situation of] one in dire straits who cannot repay his debt, Allah will alleviate his lot in both this world and in the Hereafter. Whoever conceals [the faults of] a Muslim, Allah will conceal [his faults] in this life and the Hereafter.” (Sahih Muslim)

There are many things we can do to assist others. Making an effort to be kind will help us to please Allah (SWT). Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an:

“Help one another in acts of piety and righteousness.” (Quran 5:2)
We must remember that we will all come across various struggles throughout this life. We may not know of the hardships that people around us are enduring, so we should make an effort to be sympathetic towards them and try to assist them as best we can.

We may not realise how much our kindness towards them can make them feel better. We read the hadith:

“O Aisha, Allah is gentle and He loves gentleness. He rewards for gentleness what is not granted for harshness and He does not reward anything else like it.” (Sahih Muslim)

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Do not turn your houses into graveyards. Verily, Satan flees from the house in which Surat al-Baqarah is recited.”

When should Muslims fast for Ashura?
ashura fasting niyat

The fast of Ashura falls on the 10th day of Muharram. However, it is also encouraged for Muslims to fast a day before and after Ashura i.e 9th and 11th Muharram as well.

The Prophet s.a.w said in a hadith:

صُومُوا قَبْلَهُ يَوْمًا، أَوْ بَعْدَهُ يَوْمًا

"Fast on the day before and the day after Ashura.”

(Musnad Ahmad)

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim mentioned that there are three levels of fasting on Ashura, the first one being ‘the best’ and most complete, followed by the other degrees accordingly:

1. Fasting for 3 consecutive days, 9,10 & 11 Muharam.

2. Fasting on 9 and 10 Muharram only.

3. Fast on the 10th of Muharram only.

However, there is no obligation. Feel free to perform that which is the most convenient and feasible for yourself.

The 2021 Turkish wildfires are a series of wildfires in several southern provinces of Turkey. The wildfires started in Manavgat, Antalya on 28 July 2021, with the temperature around 37 C. As of 30 July 2021, a total of 17 provinces, including Adana, Osmaniye, Mersin and Kayseri were affected by simultaneous wildfires.

Three people died in the Manavgat wildfire. 18 villages in Antalya and 16 villages in Adana and Mersin were evacuated. Most injuries were due to smoke inhalation. Tourists in the Titanic Deluxe Hotel in Bodrum were evacuated by sea.

Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli said in July that three planes, 38 helicopters and about 4,000 firefighters had fought the fires. On 30 July he said that 57 out of 71 fires were under control. Drones were also used, 485 water tenders, and 660 bulldozers. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said on July 29 that 58 people were still in hospital. Ten people trapped at Oymapinar Dam were rescued. Strong winds made firefighting difficult in July. Azerbaijan, Russia and Ukraine sent planes, including an amphibious plane. Minister of Environment and Urban Planning Murat Kurum said that over 100 damaged buildings would have to be demolished.
