i.)

Book Publishing :

Asian Educational Services (AES) is a publishing firm, based in New Delhi, India, that was established in 1973, with an objective to preserve books published in the preceding centuries. Our range spans the years between the 17th and the early 20th century. The oldest book we have published is from 1664 AD. In spite being historical in nature, these books offer fascinating readin

g for those remnants who still read, and buy, printed books. Among the 1100 odd titles that we have published, the reader will find about 200 absorbing, and surprising, travelogues that offer eye witness accounts of 7th century, and 17th century Kashmir; an account by Alexander the Macedon’s general Nearchus about ancient India; the travelogues of famed travellers like Al-Beruni - in the 11th century, Marco Polo - in the 13th century, and Ibn Battuta - in the 14th century; Nikitin – in the 15th century; a first hand account by a French doctor, of the decisive battle between two Mughal princes as seen from a 17th century battle field; the intrigues of the Great Game in 19th century central Asia; the narrative of a French mission to Lhasa with the objective of converting the Dalai Lama to Christianity; also, a Jesuit priests’ resolve to convert the emperor Akbar to Christianity; an account of a journey to Kerala in the 17th century. There are so many more… like, Intelligence reports from the Indian Revolt of 1857; the account of the first excavation of the Indus Civilization; folktales, and proverbs of many regions and peoples of India; books on Buddhism; the translation and exposition of the Bhagwat Gita by Bal Gangadhar Tilak; this list could go on…

The books cover all regions of Asia, and the Indian continent is dealt with in exhaustive detail. The topics that the books deal with are as vast and the regions covered by them: Voyages and Travels; History, Archaeology and Antiquities; Art and Architecture; Gazetteers and Manuals; Castes Tribes, Anthropology and Sociology; Customs and Social life; Numismatics; Inscriptions and Paleography; Religion: Hinduism, Christian Missions and Missionaries in the sub-continent, Buddhism, Islam; Mythology and Folklore; Indian Revolt of 1857; Historical Fiction; Biographies; etc. Many of these books, containing original source material, are often the last word on the discussed topic, and were written during the days when there were no previous material to refer to, except texts in Indian languages, or the rubbings from inscriptions, and steles; others are the product of, sometimes, decades of research. The presentation of these books is inspired by noble 19th century books : they are hard bound with high quality binding cloth, and are embossed with lettering and designs in various metallic foils. At AES many famous authors sit next to each other, and it is hoped that they will speak on…
