The Supreme Court has called for “iron hand” action against unauthorised constructions and violations and warned that leniency in such cases would amount to “misplaced sympathy”, in a landmark judgment in addition to the directives issued in Re:
Directions in the matter of demolition of structures (Bulldozer matter).

The top court said unauthorised constructions cannot be legitimised or protected solely on the ground of the passage of time or citing inaction of the authorities or by taking recourse to the excuse that substantial money has been spent on the said construction.

The penultimate day of Parliament’s Winter Session was marked by a heated political showdown between the BJP and the Opposition, with both sides accusing each other of misconduct and assault during dramatic scenes in the Parliament Complex on Thursday.

The tensions escalated when Opposition MPs, under the INDIA bloc, carried out protest marches, accusing Union Home Minister Amit Shah of making controversial remarks about B.R. Ambedkar in Rajya Sabha earlier this week. The BJP countered with allegations that Rahul Gandhi pushed BJP MP Pratap Sarangi during the protest.

Rahul Gandhi denied the accusations, asserting that BJP MPs obstructed and threatened him as he tried to enter the Parliament building. “They were threatening us. We are not afraid of them. We have the right to enter the Parliament,” he told reporters.

BJP MP Sarangi, reportedly injured, was seen seated in the complex surrounded by party members, including MP Nishikant Dubey. Dubey confronted Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “hooliganism,” while Gandhi retorted that it was Sarangi who pushed him.

Sarangi was later shifted to RML Hospital for treatment, with several BJP MPs and Ministers visiting him. Meanwhile, Congress MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi, held a protest march in the Parliament Complex, chanting “Jai Bhim” and raising slogans. Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge also joined the march, demanding an inquiry into the alleged assault on Opposition members.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore accused BJP MPs of entering the Parliament premises with sticks, drawing a parallel to the RSS. “This is the first time they came into the Parliament with sticks. They can do anything to protect Amit Shah. We will meet the Speaker to demand an investigation,” he alleged.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh condemned the incident, accusing Congress and Rahul Gandhi of resorting to “hooliganism,” which led to Sarangi’s injury.

While reacting on uproar over his remark on Dr. Ambedkar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that viral statement has been misrepresented. Previously, edited versions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements were circulated. During the elections, my statement was manipulated using AI. Today, once again, my statement is being distorted. I urge the media to present my full statement to the public. I belong to a party that would never insult Ambedkar ji. From the Jan Sangh to the Bharatiya Janata Party, we have consistently upheld Ambedkar ji’s principles. Whenever the BJP has been in power, we have promoted and strengthened these principles, including working to reinforce the reservation system.I also want to address Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge—supporting this malicious effort by Congress was unwarranted.
