We have a mix of the traditional and modern, in ways that most towns envy. Our culture, heritage , etiquette and traditions have roots in various parts of India, and the world. We have seen rulers of all hues and people of all colors. We are also becoming just another town...and 'The Dehradun Project' shall try to delay that.

This is an odd request. I'm looking for professional singers who will help me do a song about what India used to once be...more secular, less divided, I mean. 🙏
I don't have money to pay as yet, but you would love to be part of this act. If you see the divides in India today and would like to join us in reminding people that we are one, please write to me. All religions and regions in India are needed.
Please write to me directly. This is for India.

Recently, the media was abuzz with headlines about a Member of Parliament named Prajwal Revanna, accused of molesting and ra**ng hundreds of women, and creating compromising videos of them. Despite these shocking actions, he remains at large, amidst India's ongoing election season.

While parts of our nation express outrage, there are still individuals rallying behind Prajwal. It's disheartening to consider the turmoil in the minds of the women he victimized, as well as the broader sentiment among women in India. Our country, despite its rich cultural heritage, grapples with one of the worst safety records for women.

Sadly, conversations about such incidents often fade into oblivion, reflecting a desensitization to declining moral standards. What should have been days of national shame and solidarity with women have been hijacked by political agendas.

‘Tum Baat Toh Karte’ aims to shed light on uncomfortable truths. Please help us build conversations that are needed, even if not entertaining.

Q: Why should any of us be interested in social problems in India? Kya lena?
A: Ignoring social issues while cocooned in comfort isn't an honourable option for good people. The reality of India hits us the moment we step out of our doors. We're part of India, and its problems affect us all.

Q: Why do social heroes and role models need to be supported?
A: Social heroes take on challenges that many of us can't, yet their work benefits India as a whole. Supporting them isn't just a responsibility; it's an opportunity to contribute positively to India. Awareness about them leads to empathy, and empathy fuels action.

Please consider subscribing to The Jai Hind Project's YouTube or other channels. While it may not entertain us every week, it will certainly provoke thought about India's issues. Link to the channel in the comments.

Do we really need large cities and towns that start to seem alien to us? Where we live every day but do not own the place, other than the flat we have bought? Where we go because the air is fresh, but we will wait and destroy the air until it matches the same place that we had left?

It's not a simple problem in Dehradun. We have new people who bring their own culture. We have a government that has very little vision and a lopsided understanding of development. We have loads of new money and new malls. Beshumaar young people come to ‘do college’ in Dehradun, knowing that they will be here only for a few years, remaining at the periphery.

The old bookshops survive because the old owners do not pay rent and have nothing else to do. Very few mind if a few hundred trees are cut as long as the price of land goes up. The garage next to my colony pushes all the oil-water-refuse into the ground through a sump, and my colony drills water less than a hundred meters from it and supplies the water to our homes.

I’m not sure what ‘modern’ is anymore. Or what our ‘smart city’ will look like. Or how one should describe what is beautiful and what should be considered ugly. I do, however, know that those who can afford will erect taller walls around their homes, keep security guards, or leave for fairer grounds, and the rest will buy bigger cars to drive on roads meant for walking and party on Saturday at the new club until 2 AM.

The bird song is gone, the old woman who walked in front of her house is gone, and all is (still) well.
