When the whole world was going through a pandemic and MoEFCC introduced a draft of EIA 2020 which seeks to replace the EIA2006. And the CG thought no one would notice their move. No news channel care to tell viewers about the atrocities done by government. it is totally undemocratic evasion of environmental responsibility.In this age of high pollution levels in our cities, CG should demand to strengthen the EIA 2006 instead of allowing more than 30 conditions that will dilute the notification for over 25 toxic industries.
We are heading towards a catastrophe by diluting the EIA.
We, request the environment ministry to:
1. Immediately, withdraw the proposed amendments of the Draft EIA notification 2020.
2. Consider reissuing the draft only after health conditions related to Covid19 and civic life is normalized across the country.
3. Ensure that there are widespread and informed public discussions on the implication of these amendments.
4. A full disclosure of the nature of comments received and the reasons for acceptance and rejection of these comments, prior to the issuance of the final amendments.
