Several years of collaboration between Nissha Metallizing Solutions (NMS) and Tetra Pak successfully materialised into a world first – an aseptic beverage carton featuring a paper-based barrier.
We are extremely proud of this achievement. Our joint effort to develop this solution supports the journey of increasing paper content and reducing carbon emissions in aseptic beverage cartons.
Our paper-based solution offers barrier properties that help the package to deliver comparable shelf life and food protection as traditional aseptic cartons for liquid dairy products, such as milk,” says Giorgio Bosso, CEO, NMS.
The portfolio offered by NMS includes paper-based solutions that are classified as recyclable, renewable and mono-material ones. The company uses paper from FSC® (FSC-C109768) - certified forests and other controlled sources.
These solutions can deliver the required level of protection from oxygen and light, for example through the application of different coatings.

A partnership between the Carton Council, Elof Hansson USA Inc. will bring a new recycling manufacturing facility to Lodi, CA by the end of Q3 2025.
The facility is designed to transform post-consumer food and beverage cartons into durable, sustainable building materials. The facility will support regional recycling efforts and help meet the growing demand for sustainable construction materials.
"The carbon footprint of our boards is at least 80% lower than the traditional building materials that we replace," said Jan Rayman, co-founder and chief executive officer of the Upcycling Group. "No mining, no tree cutting, and no water used or contaminated, creating a variety of boards that can be used for roofing, wallboard, and other building materials, all produced more sustainably than their traditional counterparts."
The manufacturing method involves shredding used gable top and aseptic cartons and bonding them into large, durable sheets.

Valmet will deliver a comprehensive reel control system upgrade to Holmen’s Iggesund mill in Sweden.
The upgrade is set to be delivered in October 2025, and it will replace the reel servo and control systems of the mill’s board machine 2 (BM2).

The order is included in Valmet’s orders received of the fourth quarter 2024. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The upgrade will modernize critical components of the reel control system, improving spare parts availability and extending the system’s operational lifespan.
The latest technology will significantly reduce the risk of unplanned downtime caused by component failures.“We are truly looking forward to collaborating with Valmet on this project. Ensuring the efficient commissioning of the machine after the reel control system upgrade is of utmost importance, especially given the tight delivery and installation schedule,” says Mikael Larsson, Senior Project Manager, Holmen Iggesund.

The decision to postpone the event was made in response to feedback from our exhibitors, who expressed concerns about the original dates (8th, 9th, and 10th March 2025) coinciding with a busy period in the industry (FINANCIALLY YEAR END MONTH ).
Additionally, we are excited to announce the formation of the Paper Foundation, which will provide a platform for the industry to come together and address key challenges.
Furthermore, we have been working closely with the government to facilitate the registration of MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), which will provide numerous benefits to our exhibitors, including access to government schemes, subsidies, and other incentives.
By postponing the event to June 2025, we aim to provide a more conducive environment for our exhibitors to showcase their products and services, while also allowing us to finalize the arrangements for the Paper Foundation and MSME registration.

According to a recent Metsä Board study, optimising the choice of paperboard can notably reduce the carbon footprint of packaging for beautycare and cosmetic brands.
The assessments*, conducted by Metsä Board and verified by the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, demonstrated the significant carbon footprint reductions achieved by switching to Metsä Board’s fresh fibre paperboard, compared to grades representative of European markets.
According to the recent life cycle assessment study, switching from a solid bleached board (SBB) to Metsä Board’s folding boxboard can reduce the carbon footprint of packaging by over 50%, while replacing folding boxboard can achieve a 40% reduction or even higher. The compared grades represented board grades available in European markets.*
The reductions in carbon footprint are due to the high share of fossil free energy in production and the light weight of Metsä Board’s fresh fibre paperboards.
