The team of The Borapansury Times condolences the passing of Rinky Chakma

With a heavy heart, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing away of Rinky Chakma. She had courageously battled a year-long with cancer, but ultimately succumbed to it peacefully at around 1:08 am today at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, Delhi.

She represented Tripura at the Femina Miss India in 2017 and garnered fame in the Chakma community. May her legacy continue to inspire those who cherished her talent and spirit.

May her soul attain Nirvana and peace.

| Former Chief of Chakma ADC Dg. Buddha Lila Chakma passes away

Delhi, October 10, 2023: Dg Buddha Lila Chakma, former Chief Executive Member of the Chakma Autonomous District Council passed away in Delhi today. He had been admitted to the IBS Hospital in Delhi a few weeks ago after suffering a sudden stroke.

Despite the best efforts by the medical team, Dg. Buddha Lila Chakma, who had been on a ventilator couldn't be saved and passed away today at around 4:30 PM.

He had represented the 13-Vaseitlang constituency as MDC for the three consecutive terms from 2008 to 2023. He was first elected as MDC in 2003 as an independent candidate. During this period he had served as the Chief Executive Member, Chairman and others.

In these years, he had dedicated his services to the people of CADC. With his untimely departure, there left a lasting void in the political arena of CADC and will take a long time to fill in.

| The impugned notification issued by the State in 2021 sub-classified scheduled tribes of Mizoram into the majority Zo(Mizo) tribe for whom 93% of seats were reserved, whereas 1% of seats were for Non-Mizos comprising Chakmas and communities residing permanently in Mizoram. An additional requirement of passing Class XI, XII from Mizoram was imposed on them. The petitioners challenged the notification as being violative of Articles 14, 15, 16( 4) and 21 of the Constitution of India.

"Mizo (Lushai) tribes is on the top having 95.6% literacy and Chakmas registered the lowest literacy of 45.3%...Therefore, as per clause 4 of Article 16, reservation should have been made for the non-Mizo tribes of the State to enable them to come to the same level as the majority Mizos. Instead the State of Mizoram has effectively favoured the majority Mizos to the detriment of the minority Scheduled Tribes who are more educationally backward and need access to higher education,” the petition noted.

He is Wing Chun Master and former Wushu National Coach in Bangladesh.

He received awards as "Best Fight Director 2002" and "Best Fight Director 2005" from Bangladesh Film Producer and Distributors Association (BFPDA) in 2002 and Bangladesh Binodon Sangbadik Samitee (BABISAS) in 2005 respectively.
