*GMADA gears up to relaunch Eco City-3 project at New Chandigarh area*

The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is poised to acquire approximately 720 acres for its upcoming project, pending approval from the Chief Minister. This initiative will involve the development of residential, commercial, and institutional properties on land obtained from six villages: Rajgarh, Takipur, Kartarpur, Kansala, and Hoshiarpur.

This endeavor marks GMADA's renewed effort after shelving the land acquisition for the Urban Estate Eco City-3 in New Chandigarh two years ago. The project aims to utilize the 720 acres for various purposes, including residential, commercial, and institutional developments.

Under the land pooling policy, landowners will receive incentives such as 1,100 square yards of industrial plots and 200 square yards of developed commercial plots for every acre contributed, instead of monetary compensation.

Previously, GMADA had to abandon the acquisition process in July 2020 due to financial constraints and a lackluster response to the land pooling scheme. However, with only 118 out of 450 landowners participating, the initiative faced setbacks.

Following GMADA's decision to postpone the project, private investors capitalized on the opportunity by acquiring approximately 150 acres in the same vicinity. This prompted GMADA to impose restrictions, prohibiting the issuance of Change-of-Land-Use (CLU) certificates or licenses for builders in the Eco City-3 and Medicity areas.

Regarding the latest development, Land Acquisition Officer Amarinder Singh Tiwana stated, "Upon receiving final approval, we will proceed with the acquisition of around 720 acres. Subsequently, the Eco City-3 scheme will be launched."

Meanwhile, the launch of GMADA's 'Aerotropolis' scheme is anticipated to face a six-month delay due to pending litigation involving approximately 250 acres. This delay stems from a case where landowners registered their land post-notification under Section 11 of the Land Acquisition Act, which deals with preliminary notifications and objections from landowners.

Today, a collision involving three vehicles occurred on the sector road adjacent to OMAXE, New Chandigarh.

Sources indicate that the accident was a result of the deteriorating condition of the road leading from Madhya Marg Extension (Chandigarh Baddi Highway) to the OMAXE township. Specifically, one side of the road has been functional while the other side has been in a state of disrepair for an extended period.

This situation has compelled vehicles to navigate onto opposing lanes, particularly near 'The Lake', a prestigious project developed by Omaxe Ltd. It is imperative for the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) to address this issue promptly to mitigate the likelihood of similar incidents in the future.

With the state government keeping a close eye on the development in and around the stadium and work still in progress on the crucial PR4 road in the periphery, the Mohali administration is racing against time to ready the infrastructure as the high-voltage match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the newly built stadium.
Amid preparations for the highly anticipated inaugural IPL match at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on March 23, authorities’ attention seems to be focused on decking up roads for VVIPs and players, while work on other access roads around the stadium, to be taken by spectators from across the tricity, is still far from complete.
Avdeep Singh, the executive engineer, GMADA, assured that adequate development work will be completed near the stadium before the match for a smooth flow of traffic. “The complete PR4 road will be motorable and spectators will be able to reach the stadium easily on the match day,” Singh said.
