Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra is a very popular festival celebrated yearly in Odisha. This festival commences on the Dwitiya Tithi in Ashadha, Shukla Paksha, and generally falls in June or July according to the Gregorian calendar. So, what is this Rath Yatra all about? This Jagannath Rath Yatra is celebrated to honour the three sibling deities, Jagannath (Lord Krishna), his elder brother Balabhadra and his younger sister Subhadra.

One can find processions on the streets carrying the idols of these three deities. This festival is organized at one of the most popular Hindu pilgrimages, the Jagannath temple, which is located in Puri, Odisha. Jagannath Rath yatra is one of the largest religious gatherings that is celebrated for 10-11 days. The rath signifies unity and harmony and it is carried from Puri to a temple in Gundicha, around 3 km away.
