If there is one book that every creative professional should read, it is Austin Kleon's "Show Your Work", and it talks about showing your work to the world, and why it's important.
Here are 7 takeaways from the book that wowed me🧵
1) You don't have to be a genius to become creative.
Be an amateur. Take chances, run experiments and you’ll soon find yourself making new discoveries.
2) Talk about the process and not just the outcome.
People really want to see what’s happening behind the scenes. When you share the process, you develop an ongoing connection with the world.
3) Share something small every day.
Once sharing becomes a part of your daily routine, you’ll notice a pattern in what you share. When you work on that pattern, you improve.
4) Always be curious to learn from others.
Look for inspiration everywhere. You’ll find hidden gems in places other people aren't willing or able to go.
5) Learn to tell good stories.
To better share yourself and your work, you must become a great storyteller. Your stories will eventually encourage people to value you and your work.
6) Whenever you learn something, teach it to others.
Teaching people doesn't subtract value from what you do, it actually adds to it. People feel closer to your work when they know what you know.
7) Be ready for criticism.
When you put your work out into the world, you get the good, the bad, and the ugly. Every piece of criticism is an opportunity for new and better work.
