Maihar Shakti Peeth is one of the 52 Shakti Peethas, sacred places of worship dedicated to Goddess Durga, located in Maihar, Madhya Pradesh. It is an extremely revered site, attracting pilgrims from all over India. The temple is situated on Trikuta Hill, and to reach the temple, devotees have to climb approximately 1,063 steps, although a ropeway is also available for convenience.The legend associated with the Maihar Shakti Peeth dates back to the time when Goddess Sati, the wife of Lord Shiva, immolated herself in the fire of a yajna after being insulted by her father, Daksha. Grief-stricken, Lord Shiva carried her charred body across the universe, and as he did so, parts of her body fell at various places, which are now revered as Shakti Peethas. It is believed that in Maihar, the necklace (har) of Goddess Sati fell, thus making it a site of immense spiritual significance.The temple is dedicated to Maa Sharda, an incarnation of Goddess Durga, who is venerated as the presiding deity of Maihar. Devotees visit this temple to seek the blessings of the Goddess for prosperity, wisdom, and strength. The temple is also significant for its natural beauty, being nestled in a serene, hilly environment, which adds to the spiritual atmosphere of the site.
