Security forces conduct mock drill at Qazigund railway stationSecurity forces on Tuesday conducted a mock drill at Qazigund railway station in South Kashmir to assess the emergency response mechanism and preparedness to handle critical situations like terror attacks."Police along with CAPF, RPF, Fire and Emergency service in Kulgam conducted a mock drill exercise at Railway Station Qazigund today to assess emergency response mechanisms and preparedness in handling critical situations," a police spokesperson said.The mock drill was held to prepare field forces to respond promptly to any untoward incident, especially of a terror nature, with quick and safe response and to assess the security response time, coordination, and effectiveness, the spokesman said.He said the exercise also aimed to identify areas for improvement and streamline the response mechanism."A team of specialist officers of Kulgam Police, CAPF, RPF, Fire and emergency services participated in the said exercise," he added.The mock drill comes ahead of the highly anticipated inauguration of the Udhampur-Banihal rail link that will pave the way for direct train services from Kashmir to the rest of the country. — (PTI)

Book Reading Session Held in Sopore
A book reading session, organized by Raahat Book Club Sopore in collaboration with Mann te Salva Restaurant was held today in apple town Sopore. The event marked a significant cultural milestone, aiming to revive the fading tradition of book reading in the town.The session was presided over by the renowned Kashmiri poet Shahnaz Rashid and centered around the book "Blame Game: Stark Reality of Substance Abuse in Sopore" by Mehvish Rafiqa Firdous.
In his opening remarks, Aashiq Hussain Zaki, Patron of Raahat Book Club Sopore, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in combating the declining culture of book reading. He highlighted that advancements in information technology, particularly search engines like Google and AI apps like ChatGPT, have contributed to the reduction of creativity, imagination, and critical thinking. Zaki reiterated the commitment of Raahat to organize similar sessions in the future to foster a vibrant literary culture in Sopore.
The author, Mehvish Rafiqa Firdous, captivated the audience by reading key excerpts from her book, followed by an engaging discussion. Nasir Zameer, a celebrated fiction writer, shared his insights on the book and provided encouraging feedback to the author. Other prominent speakers included Zubair Sofi, Dr. Irfan, Advocate Mursaleen, Prof. Abdul Rashid Dar, and Javid Ahmad Bhat, a well-known political activist.
