বাঙালির সঙ্গীতাকাশে হেমন্ত মুখোপাধ্যায় এক অবিস্মরণীয় নক্ষত্র। শুধু তাঁর সুরেলা কণ্ঠের জন্য নয়, তাঁর সহজ, সরল এবং প্রাণখোলা ব্যক্তিত্বও তাঁকে মানুষের মনে এক স্থায়ী আসনে অধিষ্ঠিত করেছে, যা কোনোদিন হারানোর নয়।

আর এই যুগস্রষ্টা শিল্পীর জীবনে ঘটে যাওয়া ছোট ছোট ঘটনাগুলো যেন তাঁর চরিত্রের গভীরতাকে আরও উজ্জ্বল করে তোলে...

কলকাতার এক রেকর্ডিং স্টুডিওতে একবার গান রেকর্ড করতে গিয়েছিলেন হেমন্ত মুখোপাধ্যায়। স্টুডিওর নতুন এক চা-ওয়ালা, যিনি সবার জন্য চা বানাতেন, মোটেও জানতেন না কারা বিখ্যাত বা কারা সাধারণ....

রেকর্ডিংয়ের ফাঁকে হেমন্তবাবু চা চাইলেন। চা-ওয়ালা তাকে চা দিতে গিয়ে বেশ কড়া সুরে বলল, “আপনার গলাটা এমনিতেই খুব ভারী। এত চিনি খেয়ে গান করবেন কীভাবে? আমি কিন্তু এক চামচের বেশি চিনি দেব না!”

হেমন্তবাবু হাসিমুখে জবাব দিলেন, “আচ্ছা ভাই, তুমি যেটা ভালো মনে করো সেটাই দাও। তবে আমার গলার দায়িত্ব কিন্তু তোমার!”

পরে যখন চা-ওয়ালা জানতে পারল এই ভদ্রলোক আর কেউ নন, স্বয়ং হেমন্ত মুখোপাধ্যায়, তখন সে রীতিমতো লজ্জায় পড়ে ক্ষমা চাইল। কিন্তু হেমন্তবাবু হাসতে হাসতে বললেন— “তোমার চায়ের দায়িত্বে কিন্তু আমি পুরোপুরি সন্তুষ্ট। আর আমার গান ভালো হলে সেটাও তোমারই কৃতিত্ব!”

আরেকটি ঘটনা, যা ঘটে মুম্বাইয়ের এক রেকর্ডিং স্টুডিওতে। হেমন্ত মুখোপাধ্যায়ের কণ্ঠে তখন মুগ্ধ সারা দেশ। স্টুডিওতে সবাই তাকে “হেমন্ত বাবু” বলে সম্মান দেখাত। কিন্তু একদিন এক নতুন সহকারী, যিনি তাঁকে চিনতেন না, ভুল করে বলেই ফেললেন— “আপনি একটু পিয়ানোটা ধরতে সাহায্য করবেন?”

অবাক করার বিষয় হলো, কোনো আপত্তি না জানিয়ে হেমন্তবাবু হাসিমুখে পিয়ানো ধরতে লেগে পড়লেন। তখন স্টুডিওর অন্য একজন তাকে দেখে চমকে উঠে বললেন, “এ কী করছেন! কাকে পিয়ানো ধরতে বলছেন জানেন? উনি যে হেমন্ত মুখোপাধ্যায়!”

সহকারী তখন খুব লজ্জিত হয়ে ক্ষমা চাইতে লাগল। কিন্তু হেমন্তবাবু সহজ হাসিতে পরিস্থিতি সামলে বললেন, “কোনো অসুবিধা নেই, শিল্পীকে তো সবসময় ভার সামলাতেই হয়!”

এই ঘটনাগুলো নিছক কাহিনীই নয়, এগুলো এক মহান শিল্পীর সহজাত সরলতার পরিচয়। তাঁর মতো একজন কিংবদন্তি, যিনি কখনো নিজের খ্যাতি নিয়ে অহংকার করেননি। সঙ্গীতে যেমন তিনি ছিলেন অনন্য, তেমনি ব্যক্তিত্বেও ছিলেন অতুলনীয়।

আমরা এই মহান শিল্পীকে শ্রদ্ধা জানিয়ে বলি— তাঁর মতো একজন মানুষ ও সঙ্গীতজ্ঞের সৃষ্টি সারা বিশ্বের জন্য আশীর্বাদস্বরূপ। তিনি আমাদের হৃদয়ে অমর হয়ে আছেন, থাকবেন, তাঁর সুর আর মানবিকতার সৌরভ ছড়িয়ে.....
