We recently had the honour of documenting a remarkable initiative by Manal Foundation that is breaking gender stereotypes and transforming lives.

As part of their Skill Development Program, women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds are being trained in mobile and laptop repair — a field largely dominated by men. With this training, these women are now stepping confidently into technical roles, once seen as out of reach.

Many of them are first-time learners. But with every motherboard they handle and every screen they fix, they’re also rebuilding confidence, gaining financial independence, and setting powerful examples for the next generation.

At Purple Clip Films, we believe stories like these deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated. Because when women rise, communities change.

We recently had the privilege of documenting the lives of interstate migrant workers in Tirupur and Erode districts, Tamil Nadu. Our film captures their daily realities—working in textile mills, living in modest housing, and striving to educate their children. Amidst these challenges, the NGO READ (Rights Education and Development Centre) plays a pivotal role, offering educational support and advocating for their rights. Their efforts have led to initiatives like enrolling migrant children in schools and addressing workplace issues faced by women workers. Glad we are bringing these stories to light. Here's a snapshot from our shoot.

At the Yokohama Skill Development Centre in Dahej, we witnessed stories that go far beyond machines and manufacturing.

Young women from modest backgrounds—many stepping out of their villages for the first time—are being trained in tire building, a space once dominated entirely by men. In just two months, they gain the skills, confidence, and courage to step into the workforce.

But this is more than just learning the skill. For many, it’s their first job, their first paycheck, their first step towards independence. They return not just as workers, but as breadwinners, with renewed purpose and pride.

We had the honour of documenting these quiet revolutions—stories of resilience, grit, and transformation.
