A fiber-optic patch cord is equipped with connectors on each end, allowing it to be quickly and easily connected to fiber-optic equipment for signal transfer.
It consists of a high refractive index core, a low refractive index coating reinforced with aramid fibers, and a protective jacket. The core's transparency enables optical signals to be sent across great distances with minimal loss. The coating's lower refractive index causes light to reflect back toward the core, reducing signal loss. The outer jacket and protective aramid fibers enable them to shield the core and coating from physical harm.
The transmission medium can be either single-mode (OS1, OS2) or multi-mode (OM1, OM2, OM3, and OM4). Connectors include FC, SC, ST, LC, MTRJ, MPO, MU, SMA, E2000, and DIN, among others.
