The younger generation of Gurez is not fully aware of their own culture, often mistaking the borrowed culture of Gilgit-Baltistan as their own. Historically, we never wore the "Gilgit topi and kurta". It is surprising to see that we now wear the traditional attire of Gilgit-Baltistan in our cultural programs, even though it was never part of our heritage. While we share the same language with some variations, the clothing they wear is not ours.
Be proud of your own culture, not an internet-glorified or literature-rich culture like that of Gilgit. Adopting Shina songs from Gilgit and integrating them into our traditions would create a Neo-Gurez culture, rather than preserving our original one.
