Hamas deputy chief killed in explosion in Lebanese capital

Beirut, Jan 2: Hamas deputy chief Saleh Arouri was killed in an explosion in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday, according to Lebanon’s official National News Agency.

The broadcaster said an Israeli drone struck a Hamas office in Mecherfeh in southern Beirut, killing at least three people. A parked car in the area was seen in flames.

There was no comment yet from Lebanese authorities or Hamas on the attack.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The border tension comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.

At least 22,185 Palestinians have since been killed and 57,035 others injured, according to Gaza’s health authorities, while nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack.–(Anadolu Agency)

Man Arrested For Cheating, Extortion Of Money In Anantnag: Police

Srinagar, December 25(GNS): Police on Monday said that it have arrested a person for cheating and extracting money from people illegally in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that taking cognizance of social media reports and on the basis of complaint received that an individual named Saqib Bashir Ganai resident of Rakh Moman Bijbehara, District Anantnag has been cheating and intimidating people in order to illegally extort money from them, legal action has been initiated against the said person and case FIR No. 294/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bijbehera. The person has been identified and arrested in the said case.

Citizens are requested to exercise appropriate caution while using internet and social media apps and in case of any grievance to approach police directly for appropriate legal action rather than taking recourse to social media, reads the statement.(GNS)

Former SSP Shot Dead By Militants In Barmulla

Srinagar, December 24(GNS) Former Senior Superintendent of Police Mohd Shafi Mir was shot dead by militants in Gantmulla area of Baramulla district on Sunday morning.

Officials told GNS that militants fired upon Former SSP Mohd Shafi while he was offering Azan in the Mosque near his residence.

Vehicle buries after a slab collapses in South Kashmir’s Pulwama

Pulwama, Dec 23, KNT: A slab of an under-construction shopping complex collapsed in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district underneath a parked vehicle got buried and destroyed.

The incident occurred near Super Bazar in Pulwama market.

Eyewitnesses told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the slab of under-constructed structure collapsed suddenly on Saturday late afternoon. A parked vehicle (JK13D-6148) got completely damaged in the incident. Police, SDRF and Municipality personnel rushed to the spot to assess the situation.

An official said that they are trying to find out whether there is only a vehicle underneath the slab or if there are some human beings also. “The work on removing the slab is underway,” he added.

The building is owned by one Parvez Ahmed Dar, a resident of Kangan Pulwama. Dar told KNT that he is shocked by the incident and doesn’t know how to react. “Thankfully, there was no human loss,” he said. [KNT]

Youth missing since Nov 24 found dead in Pulwama

Srinagar, Dec 18 (KNO): A youth, who was missing since November 24 from his home, was found dead on Monday in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the youth identified as Sahil Ahmad Malik son of Bashir Ahmad Malik of Malikpora went missing from his home on November 24.

He said that his body was recovered this morning behind R&B office Pulwama.

Srinagar, Dec 09 (KNO): A police man was shot at and injured at Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina, Srinagar on Saturday, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that terrorists attacked a police man identified as Hafiz Ahmed Son of Ghulam Hassan, resident of Mathiya bund, Hamdaniya Colony, Srinagar. “He was injured in the right arm and abdomen,” the official said.

SPO from Shangus killed after hit by unknown vehicle during naka duty in Anantnag

Srinagar, Nov 29 ( A Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed after allegedly being hit by an unknown vehicle in Mattan area in Anantnag district, officials said.

The officials told news agency Kashmir Scroll that an unknown vehicle hit the SPO while he was on naka duty at Bumzoo in Mattan area.

"The policeman was immediately taken to GMC Anantnag, where he was declared as brought dead on arrival", the officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Maqbool Ganie Resident of Shangus Anantnag.

Confirming it, a police official told that they have taken cognisance of the matter for further investigations

*75-year-old woman dies, 3 injured in gas cylinder blast in Srinagar*

Srinagar, Nov 26: A 75-year-old woman died while three other family members were critically injured after a gas cylinder blast occurred due to fire incident in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar on Sunday, officials said.

An official Press News Of India that fire broke out in a residential house in Lal Bazar area during which cylinder blast took place.

He said that in the incident a woman, identified as Khatija Begum (75), died while three other family members sustained injuries.

He said that the injured have been rushed to hospital for treatment, while fire has also been brought under control.

Average Maximum Temperature so far = 16.2°C
Normal = 16.0°C

Normal = 1.0°C

*Conclusion:* Temperatures are slightly above normal this year in November. So, no early onset on winter. In fact, this year's November is far better than the previous years.
(And the same goes for October)

*Jhelum:*
Between 01 November and 17 November in 2017, Jhelum at Sangam was flowing at minus (-) 0.75 ft. During the same time Jhelum at Ram Munshi Srinagar was flowing at 3.10 to 3.15 ft.
The current water level in Jhelum at Sangam is (minus) 0.06 ft.
At Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar, it is 3.75 ft.

*Conclusion:* Jhelum has witnessed low water levels in the previous years. Compared to other years, conditions this November are quite better.
