The first step to creating a winning social media strategy is to establish your objectives and goals. Why do you even need social media accounts?

Don't start posting just because everyone else is doing it. Figure out your WHY, do you need to increase awareness, drive traffic or generate sales.

This will give a clear vision of your social media approach and will help you find relevant metrics to measure your successes or failures.

Ever heard the phrase, “If you try to make everyone happy, you’ll end up making no one happy”? The same applies for your content strategy.

The notion of Minimum Viable Audience (MVA) which is based on the startup concept of minimal viable product, has been popularized by Seth Godin.

Here’s how he describes MVA:

“When you seek to engage with everyone, you rarely delight anyone. And if you’re not [an] irreplaceable, essential, one-of-a-kind changemaker, you never get a chance to engage with the market.

The solution is simple but counterintuitive: Stake out the smallest market you can imagine. The smallest market that can sustain you, the smallest market you can adequately serve. …

If you're thinking about posting about your latest product, STOP!

Ask yourself, do people really care about an Instagram story with your product or more about what they want to get from following you?

We are selfish individuals, in every transaction we make, we expect more than we are giving. Therefore when someone follows you or your brand on social media, think about them first, do they want to see the product you're offering or do they want to be engaged and entertained.

Creating a brand is much more than just how cool your graphics look. Not that good visual identity matters, but it is just one of the pillars that makes your brand truly remarkable.

So, focus on solving the problem you set out to and gain deep understanding of the people whom you're serving. Look at the bigger picture, focus on the promise you made and deliver.
