Theoretical Inquiries in Law

Theoretical Inquiries in Law (TIL) is a biannual peer-reviewed English-language law journal publishe TIL has the highest impact factor among all non-U.S.

The journal specializes in the application to legal problems of insights developed in other disciplines, such as moral and political theory, epistemology, history, cultural studies, social sciences, economics and game theory, probability theory, and cognitive psychology. The range of issues dealt with by the journal is virtually unlimited, in line with its commitment to the cross-disciplinary cult

ivation of ideas. Contributors to the journal are distinguished legal scholars working in different “law and . . .” areas. The journal also strives to offer a forum for contributions to legal theory by scholars working in disciplines outside of law. law reviews, and is well-known and much-cited in Israel and all over the world. Each year TIL publishes one volume, which is comprised of two separate issues. Each issue contains about eight to fifteen articles dedicated to a distinctive topic of law or legal theory, contributing groundbreaking research and new insights in the field. Recent topics include legal responses to the contemporary family, international cooperation regarding climate change, financial regulation, the legitimacy of international courts, beyond the public and private distinctions, and more. Drafts of all articles are presented in biannual international conferences that are held by the Cegla Center for Interdisciplinary Research of the Law. The conferences are organized by prominent researchers who also serve as guest editors. Each conference is dedicated to a specific topic and includes prominent researchers who write on that topic. Refereeing for each issue is done by two guest editors. In the editorial process, initial drafts are presented at a conference, and each of them is assigned a designated commentator. In addition, these drafts are discussed by conference participants. Following the conference, and based on these comments, each author submits a revised version, which is reviewed by the guest editors prior to acceptance for publication. TIL is available in electronic form on the De Gruyter law database. It also appears in Lexis, Westlaw, LegalTrac and HeinOnline.

Last week, on January 4-5, TIL’s conference on "Controlling Shareholders and Control-Enhancing Mechanisms" took place at TAU Faculty of Law. The conference’s participants discussed governance issues and policy debates concerning public companies that have a controlling shareholder, as well as the use of control-enhancing devices (such as dual-class shares, loyalty shares, and pyramidal ownership). The conference’s final panel, in collaboration with NYU Law School, gathered participants from legal academia as well as legal professionals, including the honorable judge Michal Agmon-Gonen, to discuss the restatement of corporate law.

בשבוע הבא, בימים 5-4 בינואר 2023, יתקיים בפקולטה כנס בנושא Controlling Shareholders and Control-Enhancing Mechanisms. הכנס יתקיים בחסות הפקולטה למשפטים ע"ש בוכמן אוניברסיטת תל אביב, ו-Harvard Law School, כתב העת Theoretical Inquiries in Law ומרכז-על ע״ש צגלה למחקר בין-תחומי של המשפט. את הכנס מארגנים פרופ׳ אריה בבצ׳וק, פרופ׳ אסף חמדני, וד״ר קובי קסטיאל. הכנס יעסוק בסוגיות של ממשל תאגידי בחברות ציבוריות בעלות גרעין שליטה, וכן במנגנוני העצמת-שליטה, כגון גיוון בזכויות הצבעה, מניות נאמנות, ופירמידות שליטה. חוקרות וחוקרים מובילים מרחבי העולם יתארחו בכנס על מנת לדון בנושאים אלה.

This week we held one of our first face-to-face events in over a year, and kept the yearly tradition of “TIL at the Bar”. We hosted a gathering for the members of the Editorial Board to meet outstanding lawyers representing some of Israel’s leading law firms.
During the event we enjoyed a panel hosted by our Editor in Chief and Director of the Cegla Center for Interdisciplinary Research of the Law, Prof. Yishai Blank. The panel members commented on the status and challenges of the legal practice in Israel, discussed the market’s demand for experienced lawyers and the skills required from up-and-coming young lawyers and law students.
We would like to thank Yossi Ashkenazi and Yair Geva from Herzog Fox & Neeman; Nitzan Sandor and Ute Klos-Goldstein from FISCHER - FBC & Co; and Roy Aga, Asaf Dahan and Daniel Kolko from Goldfarb Seligman for their support and captivating participation.
