Once again we visit Basel, a small hidden neighborhood in the north of central Tel Aviv. Great to meet up with friends and grab a bite to eat.

The Carlton Hotel is located right behind the Marina. This is the closest section of beach just 30 feet or so from its entrance. It offers breakfast on a rooftop above this cafè giving a brilliant morning view to the hotel's guests.

At the end of Ben Gurion Boulevard below Atarim Square sits the active Tel Aviv Marina, which is just beyond Gordon Pool. The marina is home to a couple hundred boats and even a few people living in their Cabin Cruiser or cabined sailboat.

Tel-o-fun (a play on the Hebrew word for bike - ofanaim and Tel Aviv) is the municipal program for bike rental. These days the motorized two wheel scooters are way more popular. Though bikes for rent are still around. Bring your drivers license or ID.

Tel Aviv is chock full of lots of things, in this case were talking about funky trees with what seem to be roots wrapped around them. A quick internet search names them as the Bengali Ficus, "the tree produces propagating roots that grow downwards as aerial roots. When the roots reach the ground they grow into trunks."

Ben Gurion Boulevard and Dizengoff Road is the beating heart of Tel Aviv. Day or night any day of the week it is packed with people. With restaurants and bars as far as they eye can see, and the beach just a few short blocks away. Tamara juice bar is a popular stop for many and a common meeting point.

Turkish Coffee (loving known as Mud - בוץ) in Hebrew, is a mainstay of Israeli culture, and popular with soldiers and on Kibbutz. Its cooked in a pot called a Finjan, often over a gas flame.

Sarona, the neighborhood with a rich history, has many picturesque locations. This one is coming out of the 21st century mall at the Sarona Azrielli building, looking into the historic neighborhood with new construction overshadowing old Templar houses converted into offices and restaurants.

Almost all buildings in this photo are new construction. Its on the border of aTel Aviv, across from the Alozoroff train station next to Tzomet Elite. An intersection named after the building that housed the Elite chocolate company from which for decades the delightful smell of chocolate would be in the air.

Seeing palm trees everywhere makes you feel like you're in paradise. And Tel Aviv is packed with palm trees. Its also packed with coffee shops, restaurants, beautiful people and so much more.

As the days go by and I post more photos, I see themes developing. Architecture, Bauhaus, bicycles, graffiti, and the beach! I love the sight of the sun umbrellas and chairs lined up in wait for bathers. And I love the beach.

Israel is populated with industrial zones, development centers, business centers, malls, and more. Ramat Hayal is a neighborhood chock full of modern office buildings located in the far corner of Tel Aviv home to everything from software companies to doctor offices.

Even with the massive construction everywhere, there are no lack of old buildings and small alleyways, often painted with graffiti. Often they are the most charming streets in Tel Aviv.

Tel Aviv is being transformed into a city of two wheel vehicles. Bike paths line the city, and bicycles, scooters, Segues and everything in between are becoming the means of transport of choice for the masses.

The beach is always action packed, and always photogenic. The Tel Aviv municipality has invested much money and effort to make it enjoyable. All along the boardwalk massive shaded areas have been installed with benches underneath. Here beyond the shoreline you can see the outskirts of the marina.

Sarona is the first neigborhood in Tel Aviv outside of Old Jaffa. It was founded and built by German Templar settlers in the 1880s. Then in the early 2010s, its iconic homes were converted into shops and the entire compound was transformed into an entertainment district. Today Sarona is a thriving neighborhood packed with shops and restaurants, with construction of skyscrapers continuing among the preserved german colony homes.

Ben Gurion Boulevard is the 2nd of three connecting Boulevards which connect at their ends, the third is Chen Boulevard. Ben Gurion Boulevard is named after Israels 1st prime minister as his home, now a national landmark and museum is situated on it.

Shenkin is a charming little street in Tel Aviv known for its shops and cafès. Years ago they'd shut it down on Fridays making it a pedestrian walkway packed from end to end.

Nahalat Binyamin is a pedestrian walkway full of shops and cafes. Every Tuesday and Friday stands are set up with a range of arts and crafts selling everything from Judaica to jewelry to the passerbyes. Its a great place to pick up gifts for overseas visitors and locals.

The city is packed with people, and in a country full of hustle and impatience I've always found it surprising that one thing they do is give pedestrians the right of way.
