SPRAOI’S JOYOUS MAYHEM UNLEASHED

Three days of joyous mayhem will be unleashed on Waterford streets during Spraoi International Street Arts Festival. The entertainment unfolds on August 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
Festival highlights include the Clem Jacob Hire sponsored Spraoi Parade Cavalcade of Curious Creatures, New Zealand aerial dance show The Air Between Us, and legendary Wexford band Cry Before Dawn.
Performances commence on Friday afternoon in Waterford City centre and climax on Sunday evening with fireworks launched from the river Suir.
Hundreds of free street performance and music events will entertain thousands of spectators at O’Connell Street, Gladstone Street, John Robert’s Square, The Apple Market, Bailey’s New Street, Cathedral Square, and The Mall.
The festival attracts thousands of national and international visitors, including hundreds of Waterford families living elsewhere.
To coincide with Spraoi, Europe’s leading street arts representative body, Paris based Circostrada, is holding one of its annual networking events in Waterford this year. It will attract professionals from throughout the continent. This event, titled Dive, is supported by Southern Regional Assembly and Culture Ireland.
“Because of Spraoi, Waterford is now recognised throughout Europe as a leading centre of street arts excellence,” says Spraoi Artistic Director Mike Leahy.
Spraoi Festival has run successfully since 1993. It is one of Ireland’s leading summer attractions that creates positive economic impacts for Waterford’s hospitality sector and related businesses.
Spraoi Festival is supported by The Arts Council, Waterford City and County Council, Fáilte Ireland, Waterford Sports Partnership, Rockshore, George’s Court, and public contributions. This year audiences will be able to contribute to festival online and at city centre collection points throughout the festival.

Charity kayak fundraiser for West Waterford Rapid Response Vehicle

A kayaking tour to raise funds for the Rapid Response Vehicle for West Waterford, will be held from Lismore to Cappoquin at 11.00 a.m. this coming Saturday, 20th July.
Cost is €40 which can be paid before the trip starts.
Not a Kayaker? Come see us off or welcome us back. All donations welcome
To Book contact Donnchadh on 086-3991153.
All proceeds will go towards the fundraiser for an Emergency Response Vehicle in the West Waterford area. This vehicle will ensure life-saving assistance can be provided to those in need. The Rapid Response Vehicle will cover West Waterford, the Copper Coast along with the Comeragh Mountains and surrounding areas.
A Rapid Response Vehicle will be able to respond to incidents like cardiac arrest, road traffic collisions, workplace and farming accidents, and much more. It will enable a volunteer doctor to provide life-saving treatment on the scene while an ambulance is on the way, whether it's on the side of a road, in schools, workplaces, or in your own home. Essentially it will bring the Accident & Emergency room to the scene of the emergency.
For more information on the campaign, please visit: www.rapidresponsevehiclewestwaterford.com.
