The Nutrition Research Centre Ireland has been established to study the role of nutrition and lifestyle for human wellbeing. The centre supports Principal Investigators across a range of nutrition-related themes and provides an infrastructure that is highly specialised and capable of delivering research projects to the highest possible standard. Within this centre, the directors (Professors John N

olan and Stephen Beatty) have established the Macular Pigment Research Group (MPRG) and complementary research strands, including the Algae Research strand, the Cognitive Function Research strand, and the Analytical Research strand. Our facilities include suites for testing vision and cognitive function, and laboratories for analytic and microbiologic studies

The MPRG Principal Investigator, Dr. John Nolan, has been researching the role of nutrition for vision for over a decade. His significant contribution to this area of research is reflected in his Fulbright Scholarship and European Research Council and Howard Foundation Fellowships. Professor Stephen Beatty, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Director of the MPRG, is one of the world’s leading eye specialists. The group has significantly contributed to science and medicine by publishing landmark research papers in high impact eye journals. The MPRG has published more scientific papers on this topic than any other research group in the world.
