Another very cold night again across Ireland with lows of -5C possible locally in a few places by Sunday morning. There will be a widespread frost forming again as soon as it gets dark this evening with icy stretches possible on some wet roads.
Some activity in the sky's above north Sligo at midnight with survey plane doing some mapping. This plane took of from Birmingham 21:48hrs.
A cold night ahead with lows of -4C possible in places by sunrise Saturday morning with the risk of some icy stretches. Another nice day on Saturday with good sunny spells ☀.

⚠️ ROAD ALERT LEITRIM TO SLIGO ⚠️
Heavy snow falling on the route between Sligo and Manorhamilton,Leitrim this morning with snow accumulating on roads. Icy road conditions now with hazardous driving conditions.
This surface pressure analysis chart shows the current situation at midnight tonight the blue line with triangles is a cold front which moved across Ireland this morning and afternoon to the southeast. To the west and northwest of Ireland you will notice two separate black lines. These are known as trough lines and indicate on a weather chart that there is incoming heavy convective showers heading our way. These batch will arrive after midnight into Thursday morning bringing heavy falls of hail, sleet and snow with accumulations but also plenty of convective showers bringing some thunderstorms and Thundersnow especially across the northwest of the country.

STORM FRANKLIN UPDATE - STRONGEST WINDS MOVING INTO THE NORTHWEST NOW
The surface analysis pressure chart shows storm Franklin to the north of Ireland with the strongest of these winds now moving into the northwest of the country with severe and damaging gusts over the next few hours.

Strongest gust so far in the last hour associated with storm Franklin recorded at Mace Head, Galway of 122km/hr. The strongest wind aren't set to hit until midnight when it will peak in the northwest and north.

🌊50FT to 65FT waves possible along the coastal ares of Donegal and Sligo Monday morning🌊
Some extreme wave heights are expected tomorrow morning across some northwestern coastal counties lead to extremely dangerous conditions. Combined with severe and damaging gusts this will lead to waves overtopping and coastal flooding. The surf forecast for Mullaghmore, Sligo and Malinmore west Donegal is going for wave heights of between 35ft and 65ft.
Please stay away from coastal areas.

Showers have already started turning increasingly wintry this evening across the northwest and north with some heavy showers falling as sleet and hail with some snow falling over higher ground areas. There will be also the risk of some isolated thunderstorms in some of these bigger showers. There will be a risk of some icy roads in parts especially across Ulster, Sligo & Leitrim. Take care on roads overnight and on Friday morning a make sure to let us know of any icy conditions so we can alert others.
